Rocco = healthier me

When we got Rome she had liver issues and was on a strict diet of pellets (which fixed the problem) and she has only been cleared recently to start getting fresh stuff again. We've been so used to her eating nothing but pellets that we've really been slacking in the fresh foods department. Well not anymore now that Rocco is with us. The extensiveness of their diet means a lot more good food in the house. The more I find myself thinking no he cant have that needs a lot of this, is causing me to do the same with my food. My thinking now is if he cant have any preservatives or anything with pesticides on it, then I shouldn't as well. Unfortunately his diet is very expensive but I think its worth trying. So I'm going to do the organic, fresh everything, as little preservatives as possible diet.

Hes on a pellet that is eclectus specific but it still worries me. He doesn't do any toe tapping or wing flipping and it seems that it makes up 20% of his diet. He has it available during the day but seems only eat a little of it. I've been giving him two meals, once in am and in pm of fruit, veggies, nuts etc. His pellet is colored but doesn't have any artificial coloring (I called the company, just to make sure). There seems to be so much controversy on pellets for these guys and I don't take him to the vet until Wednesday for his initial check up, so I don't know my vets opinion yet. His feathers are really shinny and iridescent. Hes not showing any adverse signs, what do you guys think - continue with them or try to eliminate them? I just want him to be as healthy as possible.

Hey I tell everyone that I eat better since I've owned birds. the bird eats one wedge of apple and I eat the rest. He eats three grapes and well you get the idea... oh and I had never even tried a red pear but now they are one of my favorite fruits.

If avian vets are like most people doctors, they don't get trained on nutrition at all.

Wifey cooks a gourmet breakfast for the babies, and I get the leftovers...

The vet I go to is an avian spe******t board certified and the diet plan he made for Rome worked, she could have died otherwise. If you dont have faith in you vet then I would strongly suggest finding a good one.
