We are anxiously waiting to find out from the breeder the gender of two babies that hatched 4 weeks ago. My sister in-law fell in love with our boy and she wants one. The breeder has a buyer for a girl and a boy. So the only way one will be ours is if they are two boys. The breeder says any day now the color will show on the feathers. Is that right?

If they are not both boys, does anyone know of an ekkie breeder in California, preferrably in the San Francisco/San Jose Bay Area? I'm having trouble finding one other than the current one we are talking to.

Thanks!

Yes the colors will show soon as they grow in. Ekkies' coloring of the sexes shows up right away unlike some of the other types of birds where the males looks like females until they mature a bit. Females can be just as sweet as the males. My Gracie is a super sweet girl and we love her dearly even though she's a plucker....

I think they'll show as soon as feathers start growing in. Girls are a deep red, and boys are bright green!

I can usually tell in the first week what sex i have in the nest.
But usually between 4 to 5 weeks when the feather starts to emerge from the pins.
Good luck but you should know any day now.:)

Yup, as others have said, as soon as they get their first feathers the breeder will be able to tell. Girls are red, boys are green. Fingers crossed for two green babies!
