Hi everyone, I need your expertise! I have a 2 yr old female eclectus and she is driving me a little nuts with her screaming. I don't want to address it wrong and actually teach her to scream more. She is in the living room with us and if I walk into the kitchen and turn on the sink she screams until it gets turned off, every time I start feeding the dogs, she screams, if I turn on any kind of music(not loud) she screams(but does not scream when I have the tv on).

When I was reading up on different kind of birds I read this was one of the more quite species. I had a sun conure a long time ago, huge screamer, so being relatively quit was important. I know all birds are going to be noisy once in awhile but I don't want this to get out of hand. When we first got her she would make cute jibber jabber and talk but she doesn't do that so much anymore :(

okay does turning on the sink mean the water? or the garbage disposal?
can you handle your bird ? I ask because I'd let her ride with me while making the food for the dogs and feeding them so she see what is happening don't do this because she is screaming but before so she knows what is going on maybe that will calm her down about the dogs going crazy at food time. and if it's the sound of the garbage disposal I'm at a loss to help ya there maybe someone else can follow up with that one.

Try giving her a small treat while she is quiet right BEFORE you turn on the sink or feed the dogs. Hopefully, she will be too busy chewing to scream. If she stays quiet the whole time, give her another small treat when you are done to reward her for being quiet. If she is quiet that time, but she screams the next time, don't give her the treat the second time. Eventually she will get the idea that she only gets the treat when she doesn't scream. My eclectus likes to talk when loud things are on, like the treadmill. When you are feeding the dogs, does she make any other noises or just scream? I ask because you can also try rewarding her when she makes any noise OTHER than screaming.

I mean turning on the water from the sink. We can handle her and I will try your advice and the treats.

I was wondering if she can see what's going on? Because you said she don't scream when TV is on but does when the radio is on. May be if she can see you running the water and feeding the dog, so she can put a picture to the sounds that may help.

Maybe when she hears the water running, she's screaming because she wants a bath? Just a thought haha, my eccy does a random loud scream when I vacuum, telling me she wants a bath lol

Also try talking to her while you are in another room or running water. I agree with the advice to take her into the kitchen with you. As I cook and Ruby cant see me, I talk to her. She will then talk back for a bit but will climb down her cage and come into the kitchen to be closer to me. Ruby does make noises while I vacume, but they arent loud. I try to do household chores while she is outside drying after her shower. I shower her, then take her to her ouside cage under a big tree. she gets her daily sunshine and she enjoys the outdoors. That way she doesnt have to tolerate the vacume.
