Hello everyone!

I cannot remember if I have made a post about my sweetheart or not, so I am making one.

About four months ago I was scanning Craigslist as I do occasionally. I saw a posting for a female Elcectus Parrot. As I read my curiosity was peaked. The posting said "female Elcectus Parrot for re-homing to Male caretaker only".
I made a call to the owner and was on the phone for over an hour talking about an Eclectus Parrot named Scarlet. I knew from the get-go that I was going to be the owner of an amazing bird. There is a very long story behind Scarlet and I hope everyone here does not mind me sharing it...

Ups, I have to leave to go get sushi, I will finish my post when I return, sorry for the suspense (for anyone who cares). :)

Sorry, I ate way too much spicy tuna and then proceeded to pass out on the couch. :)

Scarlet was hatched in Florida and purchased by a bird shop in Texas. Apparently this "Bird Shop" was poorly ran and the conditions were terrible. A couple rescued her from this place and named her Scarlet. She was a much loved part of the family and was very well behaved. Well, life happened and the couple divorced. Scarlet went with the woman and they moved into her fathers house. Over the next few months Scarlet became very attached to the woman's father and absolutely adored him. The woman found a job in NC and decided to move. Scarlet did not take well to the separation from the woman's father and became hostile. She missed the man, and took out her sadness/anger on the woman. Scarlet went from a friendly parrot to a little demon. She wanted nothing to do with the lady, and would attack her any chance she got.

After speaking to this woman on the phone, I knew that this was a sweet bird that was just upset and confused. I figured that I could try to make her happy again. So we scheduled a time to meet.

When I arrived at the woman's house I saw the scars on her arms from where Scarlet had bitten her. It was obvious that this bird had it out for the lady. I walked into the bird room, and Scarlet ran and hid in a closet. I got on my knees and bent into the closet to see this beautiful bird. The woman said, "please be careful, she will attack you, that is her safe place".

What happened next was simply amazing....

Scarlet ran towards me, jumped on my leg and proceeded to climb up to my shoulder. She then started playing with my hair and my beard. I could pick her up, she would step up and everything.

The woman was in shock. The next words out of her mouth were " you can have her, I dont want a dime".

That was four months ago and now Scarlet and I are always together.

Oh, by the way she is Nine years old.

I have never had a bird that is as affectionate as Scarlet. She loves to be cuddled and put under blankets. She lays on the couch with me on her back like a baby. I can literally handle her any way I want, without her showing the slightest signs of aggression. She has not bitten once, and is great with everyone. She is a totally different bird now than when she was with her previous owner. Even though I have only had her four months, I trust her more than any bird I have ever had. She is great with children and I take her to events all over town.

She is not clipped and wears a leash.

I love my sweetheart!

Oh yeah, her favorite thing in the world is WATER. She gets a shower with me every other day and loves to swim.

I took her to the lake two weeks ago for a boating trip. She loved it. She would swim in the lake with me, like a duck. I have never seen a parrot behave like this. She is so amazing.

Sorry to rant on, I just love her so much.

Sorry for the lack of response. We did go gig'n last night. While walking down the trail I found a juvenile opossum that had been attacked by some sort of animal. I washed him and treated his wounds (which were infested with maggots). The little fella seemed to know that I was trying to help. He never tried to bite, and allowed me to clean his wounds thoroughly. Heck, he finally got so comfortable that he ate some apple and cat food...

Scarlet did not know what to think about the opossum. :)

I will get some video of Scarlet this evening and post..

Sorry for the randomness of my postings.

These birds are amazing I adore my Gitana, however i know she likes my middle teen more than me. She will hop out of her cage and follow my 15 year old around the house. She also talks better when she is around..This is how i fell in love with Gitana my girl saw her and said omg mom she is lovely she reached right in the cage and the bird went right to her..I knew that bird was meant for me at that moment. While i was talking to the man Gitana was on my girls shoulder playing with her hair.

Your eclectus is beautiful, i am glad you found her:)
