Can someone explain to me how would i know for sure if Gitana is wing flipping. I put her back in her cage and she has been talking, laughing making knock knock noises, then I see her wings open and close about half way open multiple times.I remember reading about wing flipping but I don't know how to spot it.

I did give her a few pellets this AM because the vet insists I should even thought seriously i don't think its necessary

If your at all worried about these problems stop giving your bird any processed foods. Try a fresh food approach, With raw nuts & sprouts.

awwww i see tyty, she isnt doing that she opens he wings about half way, I give lots of veggies, fruits, some almond or walnut mung beans sprouted, black bean thats why i dont think the harrison is needed, in the beginning it was needed to get her off seed.

I guess she is just acting like a goof ball today

My vet recommended I give my Eclectus pellets too. But he also didn't have any concerns about organic pellets vs. conventional ones, and didn't seem to think that artificial dyes and such were harmful. He also told me that synthetic vitamins are no different from natural vitamins...I concluded that he knew absolutely nothing about the fundamentals of health, and continue to feed my bird organic greens, fruits, sprouts, nuts, and seeds as treats. If I ever find that she needs pellets, I would go for TOPS.

Abby 2 year old Female Eclectus & Solomon 12 year old Male CAG & Dickens 4 year old CAG.
Abby does her wings the same way and so does Solomon... I think it is just a stretching thing. I will say Eagle to Abby and she will do it sometimes on command.

Sounds like you are feeding her the good stuff.
I would definitely find a Good Avian Vet...

Keep us posted.

about a year ago i thought pickle was wing flipping (he wasnt) and i cant find the same video i found then, it was a female eclectus wing flipping without toe tapping. The video above is good. but IMO it is a better demonstration of toe tapping than wing flipping (which do not need to occur together or in any order)...

they do kind of bob and do a half-committed flapping thing when they want to take flight but don't... >this is what pickle was doing.

but if it continues and you don't think it is ordinary i would definitely go see an avian vet. and hopefully the behaviour is done at the vet for it to be seen by them properly.

I though she was she would make all this noise open wings about half and close repeatedly a couple times, she would stop if you walked towards her or you started chatting it up with her..she seems to be opening those wings and flapping them when she is in a very talkative mood.

She is still doing it not all the time. It doesn't appear to be uncontrollable and she is opening her wings about half way.. My husband was commenting that maybe she has figured out her cage is much roomier now and she might be opening the wings half way to stretch them a bit. She never used to open her wings at all when she first came only if she was outside the cage walking around would she open the wings.. I don't know if she is doing it for exercise or begging not sure yet..Its not all the time. she has no toe tapping I watched her for that carefully.

When she gets in the act she is actually open the wings half way high on her back and keeping them there lowering the wing a tad and flapping it.

I always worry for her she wasn't in good state when i got her, but she is getting much better.

I am thinking I am going to have to find another avian vet, the one I have she is very nice, but when Gitana went in she noted how odd it was that her feathers around her eyes that are coming back( she had no hair around eyes when I got her) in red and she made a comment that it was supposed to be blue..Granted I am not an expert on eclectus and when i got her I did not know if she was a soloman or a vos, I never saw a female exlectus in person, only males. I am thinking she is a Vos which have no blue around the eyes, the vet seems to think I am wrong LOL

She is really coming out of her shell now, she was very shy before, now she is getting attitude, making lots of noises and talking. Yesterday my husband was locked out when I went to open house for my girls and i shut the front window but didnt lock it (lucky him LOL) when he crawled through it she was an alarm totally went off. He has only heard her make that noise twice. She is also playing more I caught her using her swing for the first time. Maybe she is just getting more comfortable and I am just paranoid LOL

I am very grateful to the posters here because everyday I learn something new about these parrots..
