For anyone following my last thread, Audrey has a bacterial infection. We went back to the vet on Thursday and they confirmed the bacteria had not yet completely gone. They put her on stronger antibiotics. She also suggested we do a test for psittacosis because of the fact that I had been sick for some time too so we went ahead. They gave her an injection as a 'just in case' precaution.

I called back today to talk to the vet about her test results. She said the results were 'tricky'. If she was an adult bird it would be a negative but she did have some antibody reaction and because shes a baby and she's been sneezing, they are going to take it as a positive and begin the necessary treatments. :( Poor little darling. The bacterial infection and the psittacosis are two different problems. Fingers crossed for my poor baby girl that she gets better asap. She is going good though, when I tell her its medicine time she still happily steps up to take it and only very little resistance haha :D

I've also pin pointed the time to Audrey's sickness to a recent visit to a couple of bird shops. I was shopping for birthday toys for her and was also giving the birds pats at the time. While I always wash my hands afterwards and disinfect any toys or branches that go near Audrey, Ive been told its still possible to carry the disease home on my clothes or hair etc :( I don't know for sure if this is the cause but the timing fits right down to the day!

Thanks so much Adindafloyd :) She is getting sick of the meds haha, but still takes them with little resistance, so at least that part is easy. Another vet check this weekend will determine weather the bacteria is gone, then we just need a weekly needle to treat the other problem and she will be all good again <3

My girl has 2 bacterial crop infections and does NOT like the meds. Since we are on our second round ( i dont believe she got enough medicine in her the first round ) I found an easier way to get meds in her. I tear off a small piece of white bread and put the medicine on it till it soaks in good. Then I put some baby food bananas on top of the medicine so she cant see the pink. I leave it till she has eaten all of it, then feed her her regular meals. This has worked wonderfully, she loves it and eagerly gobbles it all up.
I hope Audrey feels better soon, It's quite stressful when our babies are sick.

Thanks everyone! Boysmom, thats a good idea to get her to have her meds ! Audrey has made the medicating part easy for me thankfully. I will know if this course of antibiotics has been successful after my vet trip tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it has worked!! Will let you know after I know more!

I hope Audrey feels better soon. It is very stressful when our beloved pets get sick. Though I probably should have "family members", because they're always so much more than a pet. At least she's taking her antibiotics. Good luck at the vet!!

Thank you BarkleyLoves :) I am currently wide awake even though I should be in bed, as we have to get up early for the vet trip.. I always get stressy when it comes to anything dr related, me going to the drs, my daughter going, or even my birdy going haha :( Really hoping its good news, and the bacteria infection is gone. Then we can focus on treating the psittacosis and getting her back to her happy healthy self again!

The vet visit went good! :) Yay! Audrey's bacteria has cleared right up, so we were super happy about that. The vet is also unsure weather we need to continue the psittacosis treatment. She wants me to go get tested during the week, and if I'm negative then they will cease with the treatments. She said the only reason they took her result as a positive was because her sneezing was not going and she was not responding to the meds, but as the bacteria has cleared right up, if the sneezing does not come back then she will be in the clear :) HAPPY NEWS!
