She is 1 year old and 1 month now, and she hasn't picked up on talking yet, which surprises me. She is in the living room, and I talk to her ALL day in a happy, high pitch voice, and not only that but she hears all the chatter of the household too. She does make the sounds to words .. Like I know when she is trying to say "Hop Up" or "Come on" Or "gimmie kiss" but its just the tone, not the actual words. She is also a wonderful singer, she picks up songs and tunes VERY quickly. What do you guys reckon, will she ever talk? Maybe she is just a slow learner? Have other people had their birds that have been late talkers? I know its not essential that she ever learns to talk, but I would really love to hear her and have funny stories to tell haha :)

I'm so sorry Audrey hasnt spoke to you yet. My girl was 1 year old when I got her and within 2 weeks she was chattering up a storm. Just yesterday she finally said good morning. Set up a tape recorder or camera when you leave the house and see if she talks or practices when no one is around. My girl talks much more when im not in the room, but she does talk directly to me at times also. Just keep talking to her, as she sings and whistles she seems to be well on her way. maybe she is a singer and not a talker- who knows ? good luck, I will try to post a video of my girl chattering away.

She does prefer to chatter when Im not 'paying attention to her' so if I'm watching a movie or on the computer she will chatter away. Also before I get up yet, I hear the same chatter. But no proper words. :( She is getting close. It just surprises me, the breeder, vet, and other bird people alike have all thought she would pick up words really easily because of my voice, and my daughters high girly voice - which I was told they like. I always talk to her too like in conversation. She may very well be a singer! She is a good one at that too hehe :) I always try to video tape her, but she will not perform for the camera lol

Ruby clams up if she sees the camera also. We have to hide it and trick her. Sounds like she is well on her way to talking. At first Ruby would only speak in my girly voice. Lately when a phone rings she will talk in Hubby's voice ( he is on phone much more than i am ) she will say Hello, yes , uh huh, yes, good bye all in his voice. I say she prefers to talk behind our backs rather than to our face- LOL. She does talk alot if im trying to nap on the sofa or watch a program and not paying her attention. She also chats alot when im in the kitchen cooking and she can hear me but cant see me. She has learned to cry exactly like my granddaughter, she knows that cry gets attention. Hubby said the other day " your daughter is crying for you " I laughed like crazy.

I have to trick Audrey with the camera too LOL, whenever she sees it she immediately stops and comes running over to stare at the phone, its so cute.
Hahaha Ruby is cheeky, crying to get attention!
I made a long video of her the other day and at one part I could swear she said "Who's a good girl" I listened to it over and over. Its not very clear, its more so the tones of it then actual words, but maybe she is just a bit slower then other birds and will talk soon!

sometimes Ruby is unclear also. When she is unclear I say lottie dottie dah to her then she will repeat that to me clearly. She is a very Cheeky girl, and she definatly knows how to get attention. I couldnt imagine my life without her.

my little boy's a whistler, though he talks on occasion. He seems to get "obsessed" with certain words and says them over and over and over. lol. When we were taking him to the vet for a nail trim, a song came on with whistling and he picked it right up. He was whisting right along with the song the whole time it was on. It seemed to put him in a better mood too because when we got there he was telling everyone who walked in "hello". :) I think I'm going to try leaving some music on for him to see if he picks that up. He seems to like it. Any good songs for birds? (No my baby will not be rapping...lol)

Just because you don't hear her talk doesn't mean she isn't. I met a guy who has a male eclectus, he only did normal parrot vocalization for 2 years, but then his wife was home alone and called very panicked because she heard a man talking in the house, his eclectus had a massive vocabulary and spoke perfectly but only when he thought he was alone. He now talks when he's home lol

LOL!! I need to set up a nanny cam to see what my birds get up to when I'm not home. Mine will babble when I'm pretending not to hear him, or when I'm in the other room. :D That is a great story!

Be patient, I think Audrey will talk in time, just keep up the repetition, my boy eckie has a vast repotoire of words and loves to talk at any opportunity, I think he's learnt that talking gets him attention! And that's what he loves, he's 5 now and started chatting at around 12 months, you'll be surprised to know that they are constantly listening to everything around them. My boy boogie, imitates my mobile ring, text message beeps and even ads on t.v, he does the kettle boiling, our sliding door noise and the water from the shower gurgling down the plug hole as well as actual words we have taught him, they are. Ery observant and are constantly watching and listening. I'm sure in time Audrey will become a chatterbox! Keep talking to her. She sounds like an awesome singer anyway! That's a great start! Good luck, and please let us know how she's progressing.

Thanks everyone for the replies! As I am home almost every day, I know she is more a closet talker, rather then when someone is listening to her, she will talk more if I'm out of the room. She imitates LOTS of sounds too, a few different types of kisses, the squeaky door, Hiccups, laughing, etc but I know not every bird talks. It doesn't sound like she wants to improve on the way she 'says' Hop up or Come on. She has been making the same sound for months though, and has not tried to progress it any further, so we shall see in time I guess. :) But I really don't believe there is anything more I can do to make her talk myself haha, its all up to her.

My little girl ziggy doesnt shut up she is only 8 months old and she knows what to say and when! i took her to get her wing clipped the other day (dont care what people think about clipping wings) and the whole time she spoke to the lady i got her from. the lady said she has a girl ekkie who never talks and she also has one the same as ziggy she said it just depends on the bird like humans we r all different. i hope she does talk to you one day its the best feeling when u come home and they come out and say "Hello" or tell u they love u. Have you tried leaving a radio on for her?
