I was wondering if anyone has used packed cooked foods. I have been cooking for my girl but sometimes i think she is bored with it. I have a friend that is using a higgins brand of cooked food, however she has a macaw and grey. So I thought i would ask eclectus owners if they have used this before for the times they feel a tad lazy LOL or to switch up cooked food a day or to so its not the same ole thing

Higgins Natural Worldly Cuisines Gourmet Bird Food

they also have this birdie bread mix whats ur thoughts on it

I don't use (prepackaged) cooked foods too often with my flock to often, and I don't have an eclectus. I have heard of other eclectus owners using it, though!

How often/how much does she get fresh foods as compared to the cooked foods?

The recommended diet for a companion eclectus is a balanced maintinence diet. I know there is a hell of a lot of these products on the market & although people rave about them are they really a good balanced diet for our eclectus. IMO I don't think anyone can go past a fresh diet for our birds. The vitamins they retain form fresh foods are more beneficial to their health. I feel that cooking their food everyday is not in the best interest of an adult bird. Keeping an adult eclectus in top breeding condition has its disvantages.

My eclectus have a completely fresh veg & fruit diet, they also get sprouts, raw nuts a bit of seed & a few parrot pellets. 80% of my birds diet is fresh.

I use this site as a guide to what i feed my birds, maybe it will help you as well Trina.

Hi across the state in Nashville! I just made a batch of "birdy bread". I try to use fresh fruits and veggies in it. You can find really good recipes here. There is a thread for recipes of what everyone likes to feed their fids. The base seems to be the same (corn meal and whole wheat flour) and I add in whatever is in the frig that would benefit them. Okay maybe not everything beneficial because the peanut butter I just put into mine could have been more health conscious. I love the fact that I am saving foods that might have gone bad if I hadn't thrown them into a treat.

I treat my eclectus to Crazy corn cooked diet. She loves the pollypasta one. Most of her diet is veggies, fruits and sprouts.

Gitana diet is mainly fruits and veggies fresh not frozen I never use frozen unless its corn on the cob..I dont cook any of her veggies either. she eats no pellets or packaged bird seed food. Only nuts she gets is an almond, pumpkin seed or a walnut. Mainly she is a fresh fruit and veggie bird, but during the week I give her a mixture of fresh cooked bean, whole wheat pasta with sweet potato mash those r right now the only cooked foods I offer her. I just didnt know if I could treat her to something different to give her a change on her cooked food and she only gets a dab of this prolly 2 times a week.
