Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone had any tips for the first Snowfall of the year where I live (and first one my 5 Month old Eclectus would have seen).

His cage is in a Basement suite with a Landry Room Wall on one side of cage, and an exterior facing wall (with a matt between cage/wall to keep warmth). I have a UV Lamp roughly 24" above one of his side perches.

Last thing I would want is to wake up to him shivering (or worse), but I also do not want to provide too much heat as that is equally cruel?

Should I be concerned at all? The suite can occasionally get cold for Me around -20 or -30 outside, but should I be concerned about minor snow?

First off, why is your bird in a BASEMENT suite or not? Birds should be in the center of activity. birds are tropical and don't usually fair well when tempts drop down below 40 degrees.

I went on vacation several years ago and asked my step dad to watch my birds, I had several. The temps dropped down into the teens overnight and he went out and didn't get home until the wee hours of the morning and forgot to adjust the heater. Needless to say, all my birds froze to death.
