General Eclectus noise levels/problems/discussion?

I'm pretty set on getting an Eclectus but out of curiosity I'd like to hear more about what to expect as far as noise levels and problems for this species, and stories and advice on helping keep those things down or at bay, etc.?

My parents are very aware and supportive of my passion for parrots (eclectus specifically) but they are wary of a noisy parrot. I'm aware that all parrots are going to make some amount of noise - that's just being a parrot - but a better hands on understanding from an experienced point of view would definitely help me prepare them more and give myself and my family a better understanding.

I think my family will come to love any bird I get, they just aren't on the same page as me.

I have a female, she's adorable.
But, one thing that's not adorable is her screaming problem. I have been working with her for the last two weeks to try get her to stop and her screaming for attention has dropped dramatically. I got her plenty of new toys to keep here entertained and some fun things to rip up. Keeping her mind set on something other then screaming for me. Even if she was sitting right next to me she would scream till I was touching/holding her. She was content even just holding my finger. She was screaming the whole time I was at work too.
If you have ever been right next to An eclectus when they scream.. It's almost deafening.
But now she has stopped, thank god. If this happens you MUST ignore.
DONT yell. They will think your just joining in on the fun!

Eventually after they realize your leaving the room every time they scream, or completely ignoring, they will stop. Or at least this worked for me.
Any parrot will scream, as you know. But now, she is quieter then my cockatiel.

Eclectus can let out ear piercing screams! BUT they rarely do it. Well at least my girl. She has probably only let out such a scream once or twice in her life! She does like to 'yell' to the birds outside, buts its tolerable and is only a couple of squawk squawk squawk and then she stops. She prefers to chatter and mumble away. Some of the sounds she can mimic are really loud though, like my laugh, she does it all day and its loud and annoying LOL but I guess she is just mimicking me, so I must be annoying too They are pretty good compared to other parrots of their size and larger.

My girl is rather quiet, she talks alot though. No one can nap on our sofa because she will keep talking till you give up and go to another room to nap. On occasion she will make a loud peacock sound if she has been ignored for a while, and if a new bird comes into the house she will be loud until you let her see who it is, then she quietens down.

The noise can be managed. My male has an alert call and a contact call that are annoyingly loud. He only uses his 'stranger danger' call if he sees a seedy looking person outside, not everyone so this is not a problem. My little green guard parrot. Chico is a little clingy toward me so if I am out of sight he will contact call me if he can not come to me. So he basically stays close by when I am home. He is okay if he knows I have left the house. It is impossible to fool him as he has very good hearing.

My male imitates the sound of an alarm anytime he sees someone approaching the house, or anytime I am out of his sight and he doesn't want to be alone, or just wants to be picked up. It can be quite annoying, but its not too bad. My female went through a fair share of screaming issues, which can be quite loud. That was when I had her in my screened in deck. Since I moved her upstairs, she has been quiet as a mouse. Location can make a big difference. But be prepared, these birds can be noisy, despite popular belief. However, it can all be managed quite easily, and of all the parrots, I would say that eclectus make the least amount of undesirable noise, it is rare, and for the most part they make the sweetest most pleasant sounds throughout the day. Of course, as a last resort, you can always cover the cage if your bird is going nuts and your parents are about to go nuts too.

Thanks everyone! This has really eased some of my worries. I know everyone tends to say eclectus are quiet but I didn't want to assume anything. I'm prepared for some noise and even some problems that I'll have to overcome. In my eyes, everything will be worth it. This will just help me educate my parents to the reality of parrot ownership. Luckily the walls in our house are fairly soundproof so as long as my little guy isn't screaming his head off in the middle of the night I should be okay.

(And even if that does happen, I'll be ready to stay up with him to keep him quiet, I do know this species can deal with night flights)

I've only had my ekkie for a little more than 2 months and I've only herd him make a loud scream once! And it wasn't even that bad, my little conure is waaaaaaay worse than my ekkie. My ekkie makes the cutest little noises and he does this for a small amount of time, I have to literally check on him to make sure he's alive...he's impressively quiet...I think I seriously breath louder than he talks haha. I knew all parrots make noise, but these parrots (at least mine) are creepishly quiet, weird, true and kinda nice get one you'll love em!

lol i understand, Vern can really get into it to, but for the most part he is quiet. I taught him to lower his talking by just saying quiet... When i treat him like a toddler he listens pretty good. Best of luck!

Eclectus can and will do what I call a panic scream, which is several screams in a row. They will do this if they are by a window and see like a cat or even someone pull up in the driveway. Be advised, this is VERY LOUD and will hurt your ears if your any where near them.
