So obliviously ekkies have a smell, but can they choose when they give it off. There are times I cant smell Greenie even when really close (like my nose right on him) and other times I can small him from a few feet away. Doesn't seem to be effected by his baths.

Probably trying out some of that stealth deodorant, trying to figure out which formula is best for sneaking around the house undetected.....

Several good bathing will help with the smell! My ekkies smells horrible when I first got them but they're better now. But now they start to stink cause I don't like to bathe them during winter time too much, especially Gracie cause she's pretty nakked....Even though I do use blow dryer to dry them, Gracie absolutely hates it....

Greenie wasn't pleasant smelling when we got him, but after a few baths you could stand to have him on you :p Some days he can go from a strong smell to hardly any to strong again, so that made me wonder if it was something they could control.

There must be something wrong with me because I just LOVE the way Oliver smells. To me, he smells like a a flower and fruit combo. Tomorrow makes two weeks since he's come home and to date he's had his first bath the sink (see below) and then graduated to the shower. So in two weeks three baths...

Is it possible that the smell comes from whatever fruits and or veg that he ate that day or the day before? Just a thought:)

I suppose in my case it could be what he ate, but I do change his food regularly and never notice any difference in his smell--always sweet like flowers and perfume...

I have no idea how to describe it... but both Greenie and Lexi have the same smell. Greenie had a very strong unpleasant smell when we got him, I dont know when he had had a bath last, he'd been living in their shop for a couple years but now it's just a scent he has.

That's so interesting, Nalani doesn't smell musky, or like fruits/veggies. But she smells like hand soap. hahaha. I never bathed her with any type of soap or detergent, but she just smells like hand soap. I do use an aloe vera spray once a week because she has dry skin (Southern California desert weather). Other than that, nothing but water for her baths. I can't complain because she smells amazing!! My family and friends also mentioned she smelled great. I did smell the aloe vera spray and it doesn't have any smell to it... so I don't know where she gets it from. Quiet the mystery.

The spray ingredients is: distilled water, aloe vera and ammonium solution. Recommended by my vet. It's called Soother Topical Spray.

My Leyla Belle has a slight scent that to me smells faintly musky combined with a fruitish smell. She will be 1 yr. old next month. She does eat lots of fruit along with her veggies, so I figure it has something to do with her diet. I have no actual documented research to base my comparison on tho'.

Ekkie's smell like what they eat. If you give them Honey Dew melon, they will smell like Honey Melon for hours. It's the same with oranges or Cheese. When I give Mac a small piece of cheese, he will stink for a while.

I think we have two different odors going on here. Chico's breath will smell like his food, especially when he regurgitates and re-chews. I can smell some foods on his breath hours after ingesting. His feathers can have a musky odor as well. When I first got him I don't think he was bathed for some time. He had a slight ammonia smell. This odor can be lessen with bathing and outdoor activities, sunshine and fresh air.

When I first got Matisse he was really musky (stinky). He takes showers daily and dries off in the sun. He smells like sunshine mixed with a fruity, nutty, wheaty smell that is just delicious. I sometimes just bury my nose into his neck and take a big whiff. He probably thinks I'm a weirdo ha.

MMmm I love my Ekkies smell! It's slightly musky, but sweet and fruity. All three of my birds came from the same home and their previous owner was a heavy smoker. They smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke and it didn't wash off through several showers. I don't think the smell disappeared until the feathers all molted out. Now they smell soo good!

I'm the same, I like the natural parrot smell.........rather a musk smell. It wouldn't be a parrot without it, just an ornament. :D My Amazon had a similar natural scent.

Agreed. I just love the way Poe smells. Musky, slightly fruity, but really just a warm, comforting scent. I'm sure that overly personified description makes sense to you all. :p

My Veronica's "scent" when i first got her was very unpleasant.. she reeked of cigarettes and feces.... took a few baths to get rid of her Old home scent.. now she gives off a really nice "Honey" smell.. my nieces go crazy over it...

They think her beak is full of honey/nectar lol..
