Hello :)

Just wondering if i could get some advice. We have just bought a 5 month old female eclectus. She loves to be held but makes this loud ear peircing screech like noise.
As soon as i walk in the room and she sees me or hears me she will make this noise. She makes this noise 2-3 times then waits for a minute then does it again. She also crouches her head down when she is sitting on the lounge with us. She is quite content for me to cuddle her but she will still make this noise. If she is with my partner she is quiet but she seems to bite him a little when picking her up but lets him pat her and hold her.
Can someone please give me some idea as to what it is she is wanting or needing? We have two Eastern Kings, female and male and we also have a sun conure and lorikeet as well as a cockatiel.
They are all very friendly and talk and make cute little noises. Penny seems to get along with them quite well.

Sounds like she's just attention seeking to be honest!

Welcome to Ekkie ownership. So when she does this, you go pick her up. Your training has already begun. Try not to react to her calls or it will get worse. Ignore her and only give her attention when she is quiet or when she makes an acceptable request for attention. It can be a lesser sound or a movement such as lifting her foot.

Try this, when you enter and she squawks, stop and observer her. Let her squawk away. She will eventually raise her foot to scratch her head. They don't squawk while doing this motion. When she does, approach her immediately and pick her up, praising her, cuddle her and/or give her a favored treat. She will associate her scratching to all this attention. In time transition the cue so you react when she merely raises her foot as you don't want her to scratch a hole in her head, lol.

Good luck.

its more of ack noise but not high pitched but at the same time very loud. When she was on my shoulder last night she actually bit my ear. I dont know what i had done although we had our other birds out. I'm really not sure on how to read her, our other birds i can quite easily but with Penny I cant.

I have started to ignore her when she does this noise and it has quieted down.

My female LULU does this whenever someone new enters the room or if she hears people talking and she's alone she'll scream. She only does it once. Whenever she screams, just ignore her. Don't go in the room just let her scream. When she stops you go in. Most likely she'll scream again when she sees you. When she does that, leave the room for about 10-20 seconds. That way she'll think that her screaming makes you go away. And if your girl is anything like my LuLu.. She'll hate being alone and stop screaming pretty quickly
