Hello all! I am newly registered on this site but have been going through this site for some time in my decisions in a parrot. Basically, I will be putting a deposit down on a male in the next week or so, a week from then I will be sending the other 50% of payment & then receiving my new family member from united airlines, I will relieve him the same day he is shipped. I have never owned a parrot before, but I am confident in providing the best home I could possibly give to this specific breed. Within these next couple weeks I will be preparing my home ( & his) to make it the best for him. In doing so, I have come across a couple bumps in the road that I need cleared up. I plan on purchasing a playtop cage, bc overall I heard that choice to be better than domes or any other option... But bottom line, as cage sizes go I plan on buying a bird safe playtop cage, the measurements is what is getting to me, I keep comming across cages marked online to be 'large parrot/macaw cage" but only measuring 24/22/37 or so.. Would this be ohkay? I don't think it's adequate, even though it's marked for macaws which are obviously a bigger sized bird. Also, if I haven't mentioned above, I have decided to call my new baby 'basil'.. & he I a SI . As far as diet goes, I won't be feeding him pellet at all.. Or very very little. I am a vegetarian & so fresh fruits & veggies are not a problem. I plan on feeding him apples, grapes, kale, minimal citrus with a couple nuts every morning.. Of course changing it up everyday to see what he prefers, & trying new things, green peppers, red peppers etc.. Fresh water (bottled spring water), does this sound right? I have dogs, bearded dragons, python & a hedgehog. I know diets differ with every animal & going through a trial & error process but I want him to have a healthy diet, so he's happy & his feathers are in good looking shape as well,...
my other concern, when bringing him home.. i will be picking him up from the airport, & not taking him out till he is home but talking to him sweetly in the process.. when i bring him home i will take him out & feed him, from then on will i let him explore his new cage? or let him out in my room & let him explore & get to know me for a peroid of time, or put him directly in his cage & magbe take him out the bext day ? i know he will be stressed.I am so grateful for finding this site, you guys are full of information & concerns that I might accidentally look over. Any help will be appreciated :)

Congrats on your new baby. IMO I'd go bigger for your Ekkie. You can't go too big, but you can go too small and that's the size I'd use for my sennie.
