we had 1 blue and gold macaw
I was told sunflower seeds are the main reason for the liver thing , thats what they said at a bird expo we went to. He also after a few months off it would go back to normal

I'm sure your vet could!

Animals produce their own cholesterol. In fact diets high in a number vegetable oils can actually lead to increased activity of the enzyme that produces cholesterol. Sunflower seed oil is one of these, but there are several others. HMG-CoA reductase is not (as far as I know) a standard part of a liver function test, but dysregulation of that enzyme could lead to elevated cholesterol.

Of course this is just one of dozens of possibilities. What did your vet say?

I'm sorry I don't know the answers to any of your questions. But is there perhaps an avian veterinarian that you could speak with over the phone or on-line that would consult with you and the veterinarian that you have to use? You could at least share the test results with an avian vet, and maybe some answers could be found that way. Prayers being sent for your Roo...
