Lovebird Skittles
Hey Guys,

I am in need of some serious advise! I have a 13 year old male Vos Eclectus named Kiwi. He is a nervous bird, and doesn't really have a firm bond with anyone in the house. (ive had him for 4 years) He doesn't really enjoy being handled, but does like to sit on top of his cage during the day. Recently, in the past few months he has started attacking my roommate. I've never actually seen him do this, but from what she tells me, he will run at her feet wings spread letting out a loud demonic noise. I find this odd because in all the time I've had him he has never attacked anyone and hasn't tried to attack anyone, but my roommate. We have been limiting his time outside his cage to try and help the problem, but this weekend it got worse. According to my roommate, Kiwi climbed down his cage and across the house to her room where she and her cockatiel were. Kiwi then attacked the cockatiel and my roommate freaked out telling him firmly to, "step up". She was able to safely get both bird back in their cages without any injuries. This is also odd because he gets along just fine with my lovebird and african grey. My roommate thinks its a territorial issue and i think its possibly a sexual issue, any ideas? I really need some advise on this one, i can let something like that happen again. Has anyone had a similar experience or know how i can get him to stop?

Thanks,

Teganes

Am I reading this correctly that the bird does not do this type of behavior when you are there? Are all the birds you have in the same room? Have you had him checked by a vet recently? This is a good behavior problem for AD to address.

Yes, I have never seen him display this kind of behavior toward her. Her is generally pretty cage aggressive, but never bites. All our birds do live in the same room and he goes to the vet once a year. It's about time for him to get checked again, I guess I will make an appointment. I hope it's nothing medical.

Thanks for the responses. I made an appointment for Friday, we'll see what Dr. Orr has to say.
