Found some cotton rope and wondering if this looks safe to you: Lehigh Twisted Cotton Rope at Lowe's Canada

it doesn't appear to have anything on it but want to double check before buying. I was comparing it to this one http://parrotdiseperch.com/east/pro...eather-natural-cords/natural-cotton-rope-7-32 and am wondering why the colour is different.

Also can you please let me know if these wooden shapes are ok? They don't look treated.

I've removed anything cotton from my bird's cage. It is a tangle hazard, which sadly I think the cotton rope falls under. Maybe use natural rope instead?

I think the wooden shapes are okay as long as they are not treated. What do you intend to use them for?

Ok, thank you. I'm looking at this page right now: Cotton, Leather, Natural Cords - Toy Making Supplies - Products

Basically I just want to be able to string big beads, wooden shapes, etc but not sure which to go with.

I liked the wooden shapes (the balls with a hole drilled) because I was thinking I could make some hanging toys with them, and add other beads to them. The bowling pins I was thinking of just a toy to teach the bird to knock them over.

Thank you :)

And (sorry another thing I forgot) was this water bottle: Quick Lock Cage Snuggler

I'm trying to "finalize" my list/order them before I contract the breeder to start putting things into motion! :D

Always call the company that sells the rope if they treat it with any chemicals. When you buy rope at stores such as Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. they're generally for contracting and are treated. I'm always wary of that stuff, and because of that I've never bought rope from any hardware stores. If you would like to purchase rope, I'd recommend doing it from a bird store that stocks it. Many of them sell it online and they're untreated. Just recently I bought 20" of cotton rope to build a cargo net out of. Same with wood - if it's pressure treated, it's dangerous.

And BoomBoom is right, rope is a hazard and because of that you need to be diligent with it. Even sisal rope is a hazard, in fact the other day Avery got caught on a loose thread from a natural ladder that uses sisal between the rungs and to use through the pear link. I looked over and she was upside down with her foot caught and I had to break the rope to free her. It wasn't even frayed. As soon as you notice frays, snip them immediately, and if the rope becomes loose or untwined, then toss it. Also make sure they aren't ingesting it.

Water bottles are pretty snazzy too, but always check that your bird knows how to use it and that the ball is functioning. Sometimes it'll jam and water won't come out. I like just having a water bowl because Avery loves to bathe and dunk, and changing the water takes no time at all.

It kind of feels like I'm bad news bears, but there's a lot of things we don't consider when buying. So I thought I'd let you know :) You must be so excited for the new addition!

Thanks for all the info/suggestions! Much appreciated. I will try and select carefully :)

One question about the water bottles...I want to have that as a secondary option in the cage while I'm at work. Do I need to change the water daily?

I would change it daily, personally. Just because bacteria can build up. Probably once in the morning would be fine :)
