Percy - Male Eclectus
Ziggy - Female Eclectus
hi all. I am new to this forum so I hope I am doing this right.

I am after some advice as I am not very bird wise.

I have had my male ekkie for 3 months, he is about 6 months now and he has warmed up to me, he was not tame at all when I got him.

my partner unexpectantly got us an 18 month old female yesterday before we could do any research.
how do I go about introducing them properly. they sit happy with me, one on each should but when I put them together they grab at each other beak until my male flies away.

any advice would be appreciated.

oh and cage wise, would they be okay caged together, one cage with a divider or separate completely.?

thanks.

I never suggest decided cages for hookbills, that is a great way for them to lose toes. They should not be caged together unless they are a bonded pair. Do not have them both on your shoulders, that is asking to be bitten on the face. Buy a new play stand, put itin a room where neither is used to being, and get them used yo each other there, in nuteral territory.

Eclectus do not pair bond as other parrots do. A female in the wild has multiple males feeding and mating with her, while she defends and protects the nest. Females can be VERY bossy and rough on males. Typically your male should be older than the female, many times if he is more mature than she is, it will make for a smoother transition and introduction.
Your male is no where near sexually mature at his age and the female if she is Solomon could just be starting into sexual maturity. Solomon can be as young as 18 months to two years for sexual maturity while the larger subspecies take longer.
I would enjoy them as separate pets for quite some time, the female is capable of seriously hurting the male. Give them separate cages, if they are out at the same time don't force them to be near each other and if you clip make sure the male can still fly enough to get away from the female if he needs to.
Eclectus are not allopreening parrots meaning they don't preen each other only themselves so even birds that get along will not be cuddled up to each other. In the wild the males only job is to mate with and feed the female.

I also want to add that since you said you just got the female and tried introducing them already that you really want to be careful with that in the future. All diseases in parrots are airborne and unfortunately a parrot can look perfectly healthy and be very sick.:(
Practicing good quarantine measures as much as one is able to in the same house is very important for the safety of the birds you already have.
