It's my first post so please excuse the usual diet thread. I've had my eclectus nearly two weeks now, he's 4 months old and settling in well to the household.

My question isn't the usual diet related thread, within the first two weeks I have been feeding the following: kale, broccoli, runner beans, bok Choy, cauliflower, carrots, grapes, melon, strawberries, peas, sweet corn, pomegranate, passion fruit, apples, pears, peppers. He also has some seeds and millet.

I get to the supermarket and my mind goes blank and I seem to be picking up the same things, can you reply with what you feed your ekkie each day and if you have some simple recipes to cook/freeze in batches.

Thanks in advance
Nick

Currently I am feeding mine:

Strawberries
Butternut Squash
broccoli

collard greens
green beans
corn
carrots
dandelion greens
bell peppers
brown rice
mango
and blueberries

I give him a quarter of pomegranate as something to play with too, but that isn't in his chop.

Hello Nick, welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay.....

Can't help you with ekkie diets, but sounds like a cheap notepad might come in handy around your house.....

Good luck.....

Hello KentNick, and welcome to ParrotForums!

Congratulations on your new ekkie! Here is my list of foods for my ekkies, Bixby and Maya. I usually give them between seven and ten of the foods from this list at a given meal.

Carrots (rich in beta carotene, the precursor to vitamin A, which is vital for eclectus parrots.)
Pumpkin (also rich in beta carotene)
Asparagus
Peppers (red, yellow, orange and green bell peppers, jalapenos, Jamaican Scotch Bonnet, and chili peppers)
Anise
Squash (butternut, green and yellow)
Blueberries
Pomegranates
Snap peas
Broccoli
Cactus pears
Starfruit
Bananas
Grapes
Kale
Turnips
Radishes
Brown rice
Quinoa
Cucumbers
Endive
Dandelion
Celery
Red Swiss Chard
Granny Smith Apples
Papaya
African Horned Melon
Corn
Hominy

Mango
Chocho Beans
Garbanzo Beans

Volkman's Fancy Soak and Simmer to cover their legume and grain requirements
Hard-boiled egg with the crushed shell for calcium (Maybe twice a month so as not to overdo it with cholesterol or proteins. A little more frequently during a hard molt.)
Various unsalted nuts and millet spray for treats.
