One of my most precious parrot companions passed away last October. Since then I had a bad experience with a male eclectus that was given to me that had not been properly raised and was aggressive with people. I thought I would never get another Eclectus after that. I ended up giving the male to my first eclectus's old breeder. I just got a message last week that my bird Echo's mom has had another clutch of eggs with the male I gave her and 2 have hatched! I got a great price and now I'm just waiting for him or her to grow. The breeder will be pulling for handfeeding at 4 weeks since the hen is such a good mother. After that I'm going to take the baby home to handfeed myself after her or she is fully feathered which from my research will be between 6-9 weeks. I am so excited! This is perfect timing for a baby because I have much more money with my new job. I'd also like to discuss handfeeding an eclectus in this thread. I did it once before but it was more than 4 years ago and the baby was close to weaning. I prefer to use a bent spoon as my feeding tool. Thank you everyone!

So sorry to hear about your old companion. Yay for a new Eckie! :)

I have an almost 7 week old male Eclectus (Red-sided) that I am currently raising and he's been fed mostly with a bent spoon (and a silicone-rubber syringe). But I now HAVE to use the syringe because he's refusing to eat from the spoon now... Which from experience means he's nearly ready to wean..but not quite.

I think spoon-feeding is good, a little messy but I just used a warm damp cloth to clean the bird. But I prefer the silicone tube syringe because it's quicker, no chance of food going down the wrong way, and gives me more time to just 'snuggle' with the bird.

But each to their own. :)

Thank you! And don't worry I will! Does anyone know if Solomon Island eclectus parrots grow faster because they are smaller than the other subspecies?

This is my new baby. 23 days old! Does he or she look health and the righr size? His or her little sibling died and was not growing. But this one looks healthy to me. Should I be worried that the younger one died?

Maybe it's just a piece of broccoli? Lol. Wait, but he's not eating that yet... I bet it's a boy :)

The breeder told me that she is still not sure about the babies gender so I'm guessing that green might be an optical allusion. But I am hoping the baby is a boy, lol.

I brought home Darwin today! He ate a full feeding as soon as we walked in the door! I just gave him his second feeding a few minutes ago. He is such a good eater. And he is so lively for 4 weeks and 4 days! He snuggles with me and his stuffed animal and even cries for attention. I even see him trying to preen himself!
