So we have had Mackey for a short time so far, as in a couple weeks. He is 8 years old. He settled in right away and bonded with me immediately. I dont know what to do, I found these three tail feathers in the bottom of his cage. His cage isn't as large as I'd like it to be, but it's what came with him. Its actual interior dimensions are 33"W x 23" D x 33"H. its much taller overall of course with the legs and playtop. I have a manzanita tree coming for him. And after christmas I'd like to get him a bigger cage. But what are your opinion on these feathers and what I should do from here?

Also, I'd like some cage suggestions. I do not want a playtop one though.

What a handsome Ekkie you have there! The feathers appear to be broken, not chewed or plucked. The feathers also look worn and ready to molt, they were probably brittle and easily broken, he could have broken them just by climbing or moving around in his cage.

The minimum cage requirements for an Ekkie are about 36X24X48 with 3/4 bar spacing, so your cage isn't that far off, if your bird spends most of his time out of his cage, then there's no reason to be in a huge rush. That is the minimum though, IMHO, when considering cages, the bigger, the better. Good luck with your new Ekkie.

What a handsome boy and I would agree those look like older worn out broken feathers. When they get like that they can break from just playing or hitting the cage bars wrong.
