I am on several forums, and one particular a lady was complaining that her eckie was starting to bite her. And as every one was replying it seems like they do it around 6 years of age and get unbearable to live with. Now im a little afraid that Kodie might someday become like that!!!

On one reply, one said she tried everything but later had to give him up for breeding purposes, he is now a happy daddy and teaches his little kids to talk up a storm. Guess its still a long way for Kodie to go and i have decided that if he gets that way and i dont get him right again, that i will get him a suitable girlfriend instead of letting him go.:)

I just hope it doesnt happen...If there is anyone that can help me and others understand more on this issue i'd really appreciate it!:(

Thanx, Wilma!!!

Hmmmmmm, wonder if its a maturity thing. Think I'll have to go research this as I don't know that much about Ekkies   I'll see what I can find out.

I'll be in heaven now all day, I love doing research and learning new things about Birds. I'll be back on later but for now must go clean the cages out feed and water the crew and then start on research :D :D

Thanx Peta, I am really worried it would happen to Kodie. It is a maturing thing, and looks like when they get 6 years old they dont get off the maturing thing and get extremely aggressive.

I also try to research this problem, but im a little dumb on finding good info on this, especially since everyone that owns them that i know of, their boys are only 2 to 4 years old.

But i might have missed something.
Would appreciate if you can find something!:)

Just having a quick look through, it seems that most often it is the females that become aggressive over things like nest box, cage eggs chicks, etc. Saying that it seems that from what I've read the Ekkies are fairly similar to the ~Greys ~ :D They both go through the terrible 2's, which I have to say is a wonderful time ~ Bucc is going through these now, everything it seems should be Buccs way or no way, he really doesn't like it when I won't have it his way. :D

I found out a few sites, but I'll look a bit later on for more in depth ones.

http://www.parrotchronicles.com/winter2001/speciesspotlight.htm

http://wonderclub.com/Wildlife/birds/EclectusParrot.htm

http://www.luxury.net/eclectus/eclectus_faqs.htm

http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww67eii.htm

As with most sites on the list there is a lot of differing opinions on the way Ekkies should behave, act and even eat. Only a bird parent can decide what is best for their own bird. IMO. Hope these help a little.

Love and a firm hand goes a long way.

Of all the research I have done today I have yet to find a site that states that the males get aggressive. Everyone so far has said that it is the females that get aggressive.
Does this lady state that her ekkie is in fact male. I shall keep looking for more info but so far no need to worry.

I would have to ask a few questions,
Is her bird male/female,
when did this start
any changes in the home, etc etc.
Do these other people who are answering her have ekkies

All parrots as they mature will go through changes, I would say that as long as you keep the love and a firm hand with Kodie, I don't think you'll have much to worry about. If I come up with anything else I'll get the sites posted for you.

Unfortunately not....that member haven't been on in ages! I got mine as a pair but they're not a breeding pair as the female doesn't like the male that much. I got them around 5 years old from what I was told. We've had them for 3 years now. So far they've been nothing but sweet.

That's great to hear! Thanks. I wouldnt think that they would be aggressive after five. Sounds like the exception:green2: rather then the rule:green2::green2::green2::green2::green2:.

Well, I had issues with JoJo the boy to begin with. He was terrified of hands and doesn't trust people at all. Gracie was a piece of cake. It took me three days to train JoJo to step up, a week to step up like a pro. Months later for him to fully trust me. I pick him up and he'll give me a kiss now days. He's a super sweet boy!!!! :)
