I'm getting my first eclectus in about a month and have been reading up on the dietary needs. I'm looking for any tips. From what I understand, very little seed and pellets that are not colored. What brand or type of pellets has anyone found to be best? Also, the vegetables, are they best raw or cooked or a little of both? I want to give him the best diet I can so I appreciate any advice!

R.I.P Kiwiberry, GCC.
Granted I don't have an ekkie, although I'd love one in the future.
But I always feed my GCC raw veggies, I would just feed cooked veggies in birdie bread, which I've only tried once and failed miserably.
It was in the oven for 2 hours before i gave up, the outside was hard as rock and the inside was still a bit moist, no idea how it happened.

Eclectus are primarily fruit eaters however they will eat pretty well anything that you give them. A good diet consists of a variety of fresh fruits (no avocado) with added raw veggies (no onions as they can cause liver damage over time). You may also give them a SMALL amount of seed like almonds, walnuts, macadamia etc. Mine ate the non coloured pellets as well. In summer when it can get very hot during the day, leave a bit of pellets for the bird so it has something to eat during the day. Fresh fruit or veggies will go off after an hour or two during summer so feed the fresh stuff early morning (remove before you go to work) and evening.

The only pellets I ever give now are Goldn'obles 1 from Goldenfeast that are shaped like cheerios so they work well strung as treats or in foraging toys (it breaks down to a very small amount). At night they get Volkman's seed especially formulated for eclectus but the bulk of their diet should be fresh fruits and veggies. I do serve some cooked but many more are raw which has more of the nutrients intact. You will come to find what yours likes as far as size of chop. Mine like things cut pretty small because they don't use their feet as much as other parrots to eat. They usually dive in getting it all over their faces, that's how you know they are loving it.

Since you have some time to continue research I strongly suggest the website "Land Of Vos" it is dedicated to information about eclectus and will cover just about everything you will need to know before your baby comes home as well as a better handle on diet which is the most important aspect of keeping eclectus happy and healthy.
