We took Venus on her first car ride yesterday. We weren't going far or taking any big crazy roads. She rode on my shoulder while Husband drove, travel cage in the back seat. When we took off, she hid behind my head next to the seat rest, shaking. Within 5 minutes she was poking her head out to see what was going on and soon was standing on my shoulder, leaning against my head. I had my hand next to her and she would press her beak against it to balance herself and she stared cooing taking everything in. The car ride home, she warmed up faster and was looking around with no fear. We all enjoyed it and it was a great time.

Go Venus! I think taking our beautiful feathered friends out in the car is a great form of mental stimulation and a safe way to show them the world. So glad she took to it rather quickly. I guess you'll be taking 2 extra passengers when you go out during the summer:54:

Definitely! We are working on manners with Buddy and Venus, Venus I think will take to harness easier than Buddy though and not be as skiddish as Buddy is. We went to family's to visit and have dinner. I did Q&A with the kids and Venus, a few got to hold her on their arms but she stayed on my shoulder for the majority of the visit. At one point I was making guacamole and had a large bowl of avocado and was mixing, Venus is on my shoulder watching. I gave her an almond, she's happy. Then she got brave and was running down my chest, hopped my arm, to my hand trying to dive into the avocado. She's fast but I pulled my hand up with her on it and she went from dive position to spinning upside down on my finger. She went in her travel cage and I gave her a little tortilla, grilled chicken, a grape, carrot and cucumber. She was a happy pig. She did so much better than I had anticipated.
