If you're concerned with whether or not Rex is getting enough food weigh him in the morning before you give him breakfast and make sure his weight is stable or increasing over the next few weeks. I always feed about the same amount of food each day, some days there's a lot of wastage and others I need to top it up.

Many species have "growth" periods so energy requirements can vary at different stages in thier juvenile lives, I'm not sure if birds are the same.

ive got no concerns with his weight at all just wanted to kep his intake to certain size feedings.

because before we know hes gonna be a fatty .

we feed him quiet a variety of foods through out the day and he seems to devour all of them
:green2:i just dont want him obese but at the same time dont want to under feed him

I think you will figure out how much he needs by how much is left over in his bowl. Try to feed just a little more than enough. My Ekkie only 'over indulges' on his favourite foods like almonds, cashews, corn and sunflower seeds. Everything else he will only eat as much as he needs.

As Mel said, just monitor his weight. It is when they lose weight that you really have to be concerned. Rex is young so still has some growing to do. ;) If it helps, my Ekkie hangs around about 365-375grams throughout the year. I would imagine a fully grown Vos Eclectus would be a little heavier

yeah thanks ben im going to weigh him tomorrow morn just to see how he is doing .

i havent done it so far ive not had any worry but would like to know how hes going he was a little thin when i first got him in the breast area but i think thats just cause he was not getting enough nutrients from just the rearing formula and may have been not getting enough of anything after the weaning stage till he came to his daddy lol EDIT POST ive just weighed him with digital kitchen scales and he weighs 366 grams hes a fatso lol

It's great he's a little piggy, Shadow was the opposite I spent the first month stressing on getting her to eat! As long as you limit the fatty foods you give him he shouldn't put on too much weight.

I don't think you really have to worry to much with a weight issue and fruits and veggies, its the fatty oiled things such as seeds and nuts as Ben mentioned, as well as the starchy things such as cooked pasta, cooked beans, and cooked brown rice, a wide variety of foods is essential to the good health of our fids, both nutritionaly and to stave off bordom, especially in Ekkies, as with all things, just like us, everything in moderation, as you learn Rex's feeding habits better as time goes by, you'll find his likes and dislikes and can adjust things accourdingly as to cut down on wastage as well..........
