Gizmo - Male Eclectus Parrot

Pebbles - Female Eclectus Parrot
This is a tale of how successfully I have been trained by Gizmo, to perform tasks that don't meet his needs, but more his wants. Today I took some videos to show how successfully Gizmo has trained me:D.

One of the things I took note of early on regarding Eclectus Parrots was the benefits of a regular bath. With Gizmo, we started off with a spray bottle, but to be honest, for him, it seemed more like a punishment than an enjoyable experience, so we bought a big bowl, and came up with an elaborate way to put it in the cage when he was supervised (of cause that was a big fail). By chance we tried the shower, and he took to it with sheer joy, of cause this is the most time consuming approach, as Gizmo doesn't just sit there and get soaked, he is a team player, so he must run down under the shower, run back up my arm and absolutely saturate my shirt, hair, etc.

I was by myself today, so no photo's of the actual shower, but here is an image I have shown before of Gizmo and Pebbles having a shower.

So you might think it ends there, training done, right?....well no, he is a good trainer, and knows how to get the most out of his team.

Today wasn't a hot day, but Gizmo had no risk of catching a cold, and lets face it, today he spent more time running up my arm and on my shoulder than he did under the water (so he is mostly just a bit wet around the neck).

Gizmo decided today the best way to dry off was with the sheet over the cage.

So at this stage, you might say "silly boy, your never going to dry yourself off like that", well you have to remember it's all about training the human, so I did what he really wanted me to do, and got the hairdryer out:

So according to Gizmo, regular showers are a must, but humans need to remember that in the wild, Eclectus Parrots always dry off with a hair dryer:rolleyes:.

So you might be wondering where is Pebbles, well if you listen you can hear her in the first video fluttering to dry herself off, and why didn't she join in with the hairdryer, well according to Gizmo only he is allowed to be in front of the hairdryer, so after being pushed over a few times, she gave up and flew into the other room.

Cheers,

Camo

Glad you guys enjoyed the videos.

Haven't tried popcorn yet, must give it a go (although I think I will wait for the next time the vacuum cleaner needs to come out:D)

Cheers,

Cameron
