Perspective new owner, need help!

Hi all, my wife and I are interested in bringing an Eclectus into our family. Wenhave experience raising CAGs and a B&G and currently have 4 dogs (great Danes and black labs) and 1 cat. We also have a 22 month old little girl and a baby boy on the way this month! Anyway, my wife stays home and is able to provide a lot of attention to all of our animals. We have a local breeder that has a 16 week old Vos male and we are going to see him tomorrow. Although everything I read says that the Vos are not as friendly and adaptable as say the RS or SI. Is this true or would you not hesitate bringing home a baby Vos? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, this is a wonderful community.

So excited that you have lined up an Ekkie as a companion. Personally I have never read that Vos are not as adaptable, however this by no means makes that statement untrue lol (maybe someone with a Vos can clarify this). Vosmaers are very common as pets and from what i hear make great companions. Besides, unless your breeder has told you that he is a pure Vos, there is a good chance he is a hybrid with mixes of several other subspecies. Ekkies are fairly adaptable by nature anyway. Personally I would not hesitate over subspecies, if your ready, go for it

Thanks formthe replies so far! The breeder says he is a pure Vos and based on her breeding past, experience, and rating by many other bird owners, I guess I don't have any reason not to think so? Everywhere I read saysnthe smaller SI is the most "lovable" amongst the species but I truly wonder how much is how they are reared and raised? I'd love to hear from somebody out there that has a Vos male!

I haven't heard anything like that about the temperaments of the different subspecies, but when looking at ads the vos always seem to cost way more than others, like $2000 or $3000 instead of $700 - $1000. So if you're not a breeder, then why pay way more for a vos when it won't make any difference to you what subspecies you have?

i have a male vos aboyt 5months old .he was sold to me as a vos but i believe hes a red sided like bens for some reason . hes very quiet and is a character to boot if you are bieng sold a vos as mine was sold to me as a vos based on what i know hes very playful loves his food and not noisy at allexcept for the ocassional sqwark . i sometime tell him to crow cause he sounds like one lol
