So I'm the favored person for both my ekkies. Every day when I get home from work they both take every chance they get to fasten themselves to my face!

Awesome feeling, no doubt, but there is one tiny downside. (Well, two if you count dinnertime and Jolly's ceaseless attempts to eat my food! Hahaha!) They hardly EVER say a word to me!

I can hear them talk if I'm out of sight and being VERY quiet, but once they know I'm around? Straight vows of silence!

Now, it's not that they're shy or anything. They positively relish showing off their vocal talents for my wife and mother. ("Ooh, guess what they said, today!" Gah!) Jolly especially has picked up quite a few new phrases from me, but he apparently feels no need to demonstrate in my presence. Grumble, grumble.

Instead, they both just stare intently at me, their wings vibrating with excitement, until I walk over to take them out of their cages. (I'm certain they think that they've achieved mental dominance over me! Smh.)

Oh! One new thing that I have gotten to to hear is from Jolly. He's learned to request his out of cage time! I was working on him saying, "Wanna come out," but he just gets right to the point. "Out! Out!" Hahaha!

Anyhow, here are some random pics of them. You know... just because. Lol!

Oh Stephen, they are both just GLOWING!!! :D Gorgeous pictures of both Maya and Jolly! :smile015:

ROFLMAO @ them not wanting to share their vocabulary in front of you. Do you hear them when you're out of sight?

Literally @ "Every day when I get home from work they both take every chance they get to fasten themselves to my face!"

Thank you, Wendy!

When I'm out of sight I do hear some of what they can say, but I miss the majority of their vocalizations. They're killing me!

Stephen,

They really look to be in great condition.

Have you tried playing music, putting the kettle on, frying something in the pan, these are all things guaranted to get Gizmo chatting (just some suggestions just in case although I'm sure you have already tried).

Cheers,

Cameron

Jolly and Maya both look amazing, Doc! Wonderful update and photos.

Haha, it sounds like they are working on telepathy to control you, that's probably what they are discussing behind your back.

Thanks, David and Cameron!

Oh, yes. All that stuff is regular background noise in my house! Hahaha! For whatever reason, I'm the impetus for their talking to end. Smh. Weird.

That's too funny. And they're both so cute! Doing dishes, blow drying my hair and vacuuming gets Jack talking. And I know exactly what you mean about the staring and vibrating! Jack stares so intensely he almost falls off of his door. Come get me, lady!

Thanks, Lizard and Terry! (Lizard, what is your actual name, and what is the story behind your username?)

That staring is so intense that you can feel it even if your back is turned! Hahaha! Hilarity!

And no, Terr, you're definitely not alone in that. These birds just don't know how to act!

Hahahahahaha! How'd I miss your post, Huckleberry? Stealthy! And thank you!

Telepathy, eh? You might be on to something. I always feel this nearly irresistible urge to pick them up no matter how much of a hurry I'm in! (And their powers must be growing!)

Parkers the same way, Stephen. He chats up a storm in front of my partner or whenever we're both out of site, but nary a peep around me. I've just yesterday taken to giving him almond treats whenever he talks in an attempt to reinforce the behavior.

I figure he does it for attention. If he gets a treat when he talks, maybe he'll learn to talk whenever it takes to get a treatX even if I AM around.

You may have a point, Chris. I'll start walking with almond slivers in my pocket and next time I hear him say something I'm going to leap into the room and practically boomerang one right at him! Hahaha!

Let me know if you start making inroads, though.

Goodness they're gorgeous! I wonder if they just have a case of stage fright infront of their favourite person [emoji5]️ It's interesting how some birds are so chatty but seem to prefer silence with their favourite person. I also wonder if it's them reading the atmosphere - my birds will create a quaint atmosphere for me if I'm sleepy, or they'll chat up a storm if I'm feeling rather excited.

I do know that Shiko will stare at me quietly if I talk to him, as if he's soaking up every word I say and storing it in his memory box. Perhaps they're so enthralled by your voice they couldn't be bothered to offer theirs [emoji16]

Yes, birds are hilarious! I'd just love to know what's going on in their minds when they do the nutty things that they do.

Thanks, Chantal!

It's funny that you mention this. I've noticed shared tendencies between every bird that I have had. There are variations according to individual personalities, of course, but largely similar all the same. Even across species.

I've wondered if somehow our own personalities lend themselves to certain types of behavioral tendencies from our birds. And I don't mean the overt stuff, either, but rather the subtle qualities within each of us that make us who we are. You know what I mean?
