hello there,

i was thinking about buying a parent reared eclectus shes 12 months old and was wondering if its possible to tame? i realise that it would never be tame like handfed parrots are but would it be possible to have it so shes happy to be around humans? i have had many years of experience with eclectus parrots as i have 2 already and I am at home all day so would have the time.

While I have no personal experience with eclectus, I would be fairly certain my amazon was parent reared (he was a adult rescue) based on some of his behaviors. I also grew up with a wild caught as an adult amazon. Both are very nice, friendly, intelligent birds who enjoy the company of humans. In fact, up until the past few decades, most (if not all) pet birds of all species were parent reared or wild caught and millions of people managed to successfully train and socialize them. It may take a little extra effort and patience (and a few bites;)), but no doubt it can be done, especially with such a young bird who has presumably not had any really negative experiences with humans. The fact you have other ekkies will also likely be helpful after she's sone with quarantine and she can observe them have positive interactions with you (they learn a lot from watching their own). And there is plenty of information and people willing to help you along the way on this forum if you choose to get her:)
