Bringing another Eccy home

Hey everyone. I need your advice or experience. I’ve had little miss Tequila for 5 years now and we are very bonded. She’s been having health issues so she’s been at the vet a lot. The vet called me and said they’ve had a stray little female Eccy come in and she’s very sweet like Tequila. They said that if they don’t find the owner they’d like me to have her as they can see how well Tequila is looked after.
I love the idea, but I don’t know how Tequila would go with me bringing another bird home. I don’t know if I’ll have time for both of them.

Help!!!

I am pondering the same thing at the moment albeit with my male and adding another male. I have decided for the time being to stick with the one, and expand his training further. He already does all the basics like waving shake hands spinning etc. and I want to get him recalling reliably. I figure his training will take a back seat if I add another to the flock as I would have to train the new one. Also its an unknown if they will get along. Just my two cents

Yeah I'm worried that I won't have time for both, or they won't get along. Another option is I take her home and down the track get my new female and boy and see if they'll bond. Then Tequila will be my inside girl, and the other two can stay out in an aviary together.

That's a tough call! No guarantee two birds, particularly females will get along. If you can live with the worst-case scenario of separate cages, possibly different parts of the home, and are able to devote sufficient time for each, then you have a good choice to ponder.

Yeah I've decided not to get another Eccy. Tequila and I are very bonded, and I don't think it's fair on her at all. I work full time and I only have time for one bird!

Well done Jess, you have enough on your plate with Tequila and she deserves all your attention but I can see the temptation - perhaps if Tequila improves well and things are good again and the female is still available ....

It is very tempting!!! But at the moment not a good idea. Yes maybe down the track

Why not see how your baby reacts to her at the vets? After all, she is a feathered one also! Your bond is safe, birds are not like us!
IMHO, two females are a good match.

IMHO, two females are a good match.

I'm going to the vet today to give them a thank you present, so if she is there I will check her out and talk to them. I still don't think I will, but that might be an option, see how they go together....

I understand the temptation! Im still 3 weeks away from bringing home my girl and im already thinking about a green boy to keep her company. Common sense says one at a time....but reading about all the fun you have (except when Parker had his raging hormones) makes me want one of both. One snuggler, one clown. Kinda like potato chips, you cant stop at just one!
