So Venus is still wanting to mate and as of Saturday, Buzz my new African Grey came out of QT. He's in the living room with us and the other fids, how ever Venus is harassing him. She wants babies and Buzz is her target boyfriend, lol!!! Thankfully he is locked and safe in his cage, Venus lays herself above him on his cage hoping for some action. I swear she's a piece of work, lol!!!!

Venus is probably thinking "Buzz, don't tell me your not interested, I've heard you hanging around in the other room playing hard to get, and now you've just conveniently moved into the living room?"...lol

noooooooooooooo babies ACK! let them just "practice"

Mr. Hormonal tried to regurge on me this morning immediately after exiting the cage. No petting, no beak kissing or stimulation other than sitting here like I do every morning. He did it again last night too and I put up with it but didnt want to promote something I shouldnt this morning and put him on the table. He was able to jump over to Liesl's cage and immediately I became the enemy! Dont touch me, dont touch my girlfriends cage, stay away! Lunging, biting....if he werent green I'd swear he was a girl!

Well I was working, focused on programming when my foot was bit. It was Venus and she drew blood on my foot. I then commanded her to step up (how did you get out of your cage???), and she bit my wrist. OMG!!!!! OWWWW!!!! Her hormones are raging again. I chased her back into her cage. Again it was the main door not the food doors. This is frustrating!!! And painful. I'm temped to zip tie her main cage door for now till I can figure out how she's opening her main door. It wouldn't be a permanent zip tie, I'd cut it and expect to go thru a minimum of 3 a day.

Here is the damage. My foot and wrist.

Fly free Plum, my gorgeous boy.
Ah bless you, that is nasty. She is a naughty Venus biting her mom. Could you push a chair or playstand so that the door will not open enough for her to get out the cage, when she manages to unlock it (gotta see this please?) Little houdini!

Have you tried reducing her portions right down in the hope it may help? If she eats it all and needs a little more but the picture isn't abundance to her. WDYT?

BTW when Plum comes into the room and I haven't seen him or noticed he's there, he is a bit nippy on the feet to get my attention as only part he can reach. "Hey mum I'm here, pick me up!"

Chair applied! I feel stupid for not thinking about that. I did cut back on feeding portions but she is still going strong. And now the A/C isn't cooling. I live in SE Texas so A/C is a must. I'm now wondering if temps affect the mating desire. She's 3.5 yo, how long does this crazy mode last??? I'm hanging in there, scars and all, lol!!

Ah, Tracey. Venus is putting you through the paces!

Regarding your Houdini issue, what about getting one of those plastic interlock rings and using it to secure the main door closed? I'm not talking about the ones with the flimsy connection, either. Some have a more durable, hard core snap connection that Venus would be very unlikely to be able to open.

Give me a shout if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'll try to get a pic of one of mine for you.

Oh I definitely need a picture and I am very interested. Since I've minimized her out time, moved her away from Buzz and when she starts screaming fits roll her cage into Husband's office for a time out. This last part happens several times a day. However, she hasn't been aggressive and is more of her old self. She has sat with me and eaten her meals, even rides my shoulder to go in the kitchen to make coffee and parrot breakfast like she has done almost from the day I got her. I haven't had to use the extra perch it's her to get her to step up since last week but I keep it close in case I need it. But I do need a good lock that she can't pick. She is so smart I still get surprised over it.

Here is the plastic ring I was talking about. Not to be confused with the lighter, more flimsy versions more commonly seen.

The plastic is thick and tough enough that an ekkie would have a lot of trouble destroying it. Also, it snaps in tightly enough that it would be tough to unclasp without the use of hands.

Hahahaha! Don't worry. I'm sure she doesn't have a moment's guilt whenever she picks her cage lock and strolls over to her new boyfriend, Buzz. Lol!
