Just wanted to share a story with you guys that happened yesterday. My AC died in my apartment and I gave permission to enter while I was at work for them to fix it. I've had workers in there before when I was at work and never a problem.

As most of you know I keep a Skype call in a small window on one of my monitors every day when I'm at work. Its proven to be beneficial on many occasions - general peace of mind, making sure he was OK when he was very sick last year, seeing his toe get clamped on his millet holder so I was able to rush home, seeing other workers there and knowing he was safe. Well, yesterday was another day when I was so thankful to have the camera on (and not in a meeting so I was at my desk to see this!)

There were two workers that came in and everything was fine for awhile. I saw them come in so I put on my headphones for fun. They were speaking French so I couldn't understand a word but anyway I saw them both go over to Jasper's cage a couple times, talking baby talk to him and whistling. Totally fine, very cute.

BUT then one of the guys kept going over more and more, and eventually started swearing. He said, "What's your name, b*?", and then proceeded to say "f, f, f" at least 20 times. He also said "f you" at one point. I was completely appalled. Obviously it goes without saying I don't want Jasper learning any swearwords. He was also taking his phone out and holding it up against the cage several times, I wasn't sure if he was taking a picture, hard to tell.

I immediately emailed a contact at the apartment complex (I was busy recording the audio on my computer and video on my cell phone) and THANKFULLY she saw the email and called someone immediately. I saw a third person come into my apartment and escort the two guys out.

Jasper was in no means in any harm (although I was very worried he was going to open his cage because it looked like he was thinking about it, reached over a few times) and when they were swearing at him it was still in baby talk so Jasper was HAPPY, talking, etc. But I was having a bit of a s* fit sitting here.

I was told that disciplinary actions have already been taken against both of them (but I told them it was really only one, and I sent them the photos, video, and audio file), but wow. I live in a nice place, rent kills me. That should NOT happen. I'm just glad Jasper was ok and I really hope he doesn't start using the f word now :(

If you want to listen to the trimmed file and see what I'm talking about I uploaded a zip here: https://bhvr-ec-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/ptniy548rdgph/source.zip

Oh this is so annoying when you believe the best of people and trust for it all to turn to sh$t.

Re the photos possibly being taken of Jasper please use any home security that is available as a precaution from now on. Probably nothing just to show his mrs when he gets home but better safe than sorry.

I was not able to view file unfortunately.

Thank goodness you had that Skype set up! I'm really glad they were quickly escorted from your home. I can't imagine how helpless you felt watching it all unfold and not being there.

I would be furious as well. You are so lucky that these low lifes didn't harm your precious Jasper. I hope they don't return to seek revenge for the disciplinary action.

I certainly hope not, but they know I'm watching and recording now.

It's ridiculous how some people will behave when they think they can get away with it. I'm so glad you had a camera on Jasper, and I really hope he hasn't suddenly picked up a newer, more colorful vocabulary.

Skype really is a beautiful thing, isn't it?

With cameras near everywhere, although sad, seeing that Lowlifes still don't get it, only supports why we need the cameras. Its never been about good people!

Happy you had the technology, sad it has proven to be so effective! I clearly need to upgrade our system!

Thanks for the Thread! Very informative in so many ways!

Yes, and it doesn't have to be an expensive setup at all. I'm just using a netbook with Skype!

I love that you had monitoring in action and reported them. I work from home, we rent (looking for a house) and our maintenance staff speak Spanish. They are awesome, we speak Spanish, and we treat them when we have to call in an issue. I crack up because when they first saw Buddy, my GCA, one told another not to touch him because amazons were crazy, lollllll!!!!!
