Gizmo - Male Eclectus Parrot

Pebbles - Female Eclectus Parrot
Pebbles has been very much coming out of her shell, especially since the harness training started. This week alone, I have found her in the fruit bowl, stealing a passionfruit, and just generally flying to places she normally would not even try to go.

Here she was last week, deciding that if I wouldn't come over with the treats, she would just go to them. Not the first time, but she certainly had no hesitations:D.

Today, I'll be honest, she had me really worried. I left the room for literally a minute and heard Gizmo and Pebbles flapping around, so returned to check on them, Gizmo was on the cage, and Pebbles had disappeared. At first I was fairly calm, and just looked around the window, on the fruit bowl, etc, etc, but eventually I ran out of places, slightly concerned, I then looked behind the cages, then between the book cases....no Pebbles. I went into the kitchen, checked around there...no Pebbles. Now I am starting to get concerned, I pulled the fridge out and looked behind. By now I had no idea how it had happened, but I was certain she had somehow gotten outside, I rushed Gizmo into his cage, and went to the cupboard to grab the almonds, as I closed the cupboard I heard a noise above the bookshelf........

My wife likes her stuffed animals, but I don't remember getting this one

She had obviously been their the entire time, and even though I was frantically looking for her and calling her name, she must have just sat watching me.....THANKS FOR THE EARLY DEATH PEBBLES.

She is adorable sitting up there. I haven't had that problem with the pretty chicken yet, she has yet to grow back any of her flight feathers. If she does decide to get down on the floor, she is somewhere between her cage and me.

"THANKS FOR THE EARLY DEATH, PEBBLES." Hahahahaha! Oh, high comedy! I laughed so hard at that line! And her stealth attack on the bag of treats was priceless. Not to mention the thought of her just silently observing your manic search for her. Who says birds don't have a sense of humor?

Right now, Jolly is the accomplished flier. Maya, who never had the opportunity to fledge, remains hesitant to fly unless she deems it absolutely necessary. Now, I still try to get her to overcome that fear and start working on her flight skills, but I do so with the full understanding of the Pandora's box I'd be opening if ever I manage to succeed. Jolly isn't above stealing away a treat or two... or three... or a dozen, if ever I left it unattended, but I know Maya would be much more of a handful. She'd seek out every possible dark space and potential nesting place possible. A true terror.

Yep, Pandora's box indeed. But I'd still open it to expose her to the joys of flight.
