Tiki calls himself Tiki Bird all the time. Along with a bunch of other things. He really does serve as a shining example of the talking ability of an Ekkie. He's sulking right now because I made him soak in the bath tub for a little while. I can get him to take a shower, but the tips of his wings, his belly, and his tail don't get a good enough soaking that way, which is why I made him stand in water this morning.

His feathers were so oily, they looked ragged and gross. Since he's been getting properly bathed, his color has brightened up and become much more vivid. These pictures are pre-bathing, but he still is a pretty bird. Maybe I'll add a few more after bath pictures once he dries to see if you all think there is as much of a difference as I do. Right now he just looks wet and grouchy.

Thank you, although I can't wait until his feather condition is to where it should be. The rescue would mist him, but I don't think he got a really good soaking like he should.

He can be a very intimidating bird when you combine his bite strength with the fact that he's blind, and I don't think many people would be comfortable trying to hold him under running water without knowing how he'd react. I am not afraid of getting bit, so I was willing to take the risk.

Plus I think people have tiptoed around working with him because of his blindness. Like he's too fragile to handle like other birds. The way I look at it, he's blind, not broken.

Oh come on, he's a boy! Boys like to be rough and dirty, lol! Regardless of his dirt factor he is a gorgeous boy. I had to block Venus from looking at his pics. She thinks he's sexy, lol!

As for the biting, I'm right there with you. My bite scars from Venus last month are tender. They do know how to put a hurt on!

I'm just glad it wasn't him trying to be aggressive. I have a feeling I would have been much worse for wear if he had been. It might help after he gets his break trimmed too, it is overgrown and sort of ragged. He has an appointment Tuesday with an AV so that will be taken care of soon.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
The way I look at it, he's blind, not broken.

That is the quote of the day! His quality of life will be so much better than if he were coddled and sheltered more than absolutely necessary!!

He certainly is beautiful!

I love your approach with Tiki. You work so hard at giving him a good quality of life. A quality of life as close to "normal" as he can get. Constantly pushing the boundaries (in a good way) to give him more of the life experience. Because you are right. Treating him like he's broken isn't doing him any favors.

Reading your updates with him is a pleasure.

And I am definitely looking forward to his post bath pics as well.
