So we went and saw Dr Scott today. Chicken didn't need anything for grooming, but he said she's in really good condition and a really good weight for her, so that was good. I also decided to get her a microchip so if anything ever happens, she has it. She isn't happy about having to stay in her cage the rest of the night, but Dr Scott suggested she does so she doesn't fall and land on her chest right after getting the chip.

Tiki was also said to be in good body condition and feather. He needed his break and toes groomed so that got done. I didn't get him chipped this time since he's blind, doesn't fly, and doesn't go outside unless he's in a carrier, but I may get him done in the future because now it sort of bothers me that I didn't.

I also asked whether he thought that removing the cataract from his one eye would at least give him half his sight back. Sadly, he said it probably wouldn't. He checked both eyes for any light reaction, and his eyes didn't react to light at all. He said that if there was sight behind the cataract, his eye should have still reacted to the light. Due to this, and because he's older, I don't think I'm going to try and have the cataract removed. If it was thought that he could get his sight in that eye back, I would, but I'm not going to put him through a surgery that most likely won't do anything for him.

I wish I could do something to help his sight, but either way it's okay. I don't love him any less and he's still a good bird. He has adapted well to not having his sight, so his life is still a good one.I asked too, about if his eyes could be fixed, but Dr Scott said that if they are at the point where they are unreactive, then they are in all likelihood too damaged too fix.

I'm glad, too, that it seems they are both doing fine this morning and seem completely recovered from anesthesia and the road trip. They were both at their feeding doors this morning, waiting for breakfast like usual and ate with vigor.

So sorry to hear that the blindness is permanent. When the possibility came up in one of your other threads that the blindness might be a reversible condition, I was really hoping that was the case, here.

But as Jim pointed out, He is indeed in a great forever home with lots of love.

It's great that both Tiki and Aria (Chicken. Lol!) are in good condition and feather. Is there any residual tenderness from Aria's chipping?

Also, is Tiki done with QT yet? And if so, how are they reacting to each other?

She seemed a little tender from the chip the next morning, when I put her on her back and moved her feathers to see and make sure it still looked good. It looked fine, but she wasn't happy when I touched it. Although that could just be because I was messing with her feathers too. Touching the spot over her feathers doesn't seem to bother her at all so I'm guessing it was more messing with her feathers than anything.

She is curious about him, but I don't let them get too close since he is unpredictable due to his blindness. She is a bit wary of him too, I'm not sure if she knows something is different about him or just because of his size. She's not the big bird in the house anymore.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Very sad Tiki has no good prognosis for sight, but he could not be in a better home!! Fortunately you are able to accommodate his needs, and perhaps he will eventually bond well with Chicken.
