The last couple of days when I have taken Abby out of her cage, she steps up without any issues. But when she is on my hand she starts shivering. Her breast feathers flair out and I can see her shiver just like she was cold.
I put her on top of her cage she runs to the back. When I approach her she will step up without any problems but she still shivers.
I have not done anything to her. Nor has her environment changed, the temperature is the same in the living room and her cage is the same.

What do I need to do?

Hi CT A shivering bird could be several issues. Could be cold, overly excited, sexually stimulated. A parrot that's shivering or has quivering wings may be frightened or in breeding mode. If it continues I would have her checked out by a vet. There may be a need to get bloodwork done. I could go on and on but it could be abnormalities with calcium and other minerals. Hopefully she is just getting excited when you handle her. Rosie has moments of shivering but I think it was excitment.

I will keep an eye on her... she is only 4 1/2 months old... she does not shiver in her cage. I am thinking she is just a little nervous still... I have only had her for 6 weeks now.
I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can for Abby.

You are a very good eckie daddy. Like I said before Abby is a lucky girl to have you. We all worry about our birds. She is very young and most likely excited.

It doesn't sound like lack of trust but rather some "what is this crazy parront going to do next?" kind of excitement. In a good way!

I have a 17 year old ekkie that has done that too. She shivered so much two different times that the ends of her wing feathers whirred like a helicopter. It was when I first got her and she hasn't done it since. ~Page

I agree with everyone else Mike.

I've had Cal 7 weeks today and I notice she does the same thing.

We take her in her smaller cage every morning into the shop because she loves to see what's going on.

"Hold on tight Cal!" - she does, she's even trying to say it, bless her.

The second that cage lands on the table where she resides she shoots to the side nearest the shop door and the quivering begins!

"Who's going to come see me?"
"What's Mum gonna give me for breakfast?"
*does a mini scream with joy*

I come back with her brekkie, she clambers over to me for a "kiss" then eats brekkie, happy as Larry(whoever he is).

The shaking lasts all of 2mins, really. I genuinely think it's because she's so nosy and the way she preens and listens when customers talk to her, suggest she's just glad to be in the hub of it.

I'm pretty sure Abby thinks: YAY! DADDY! ;)

Mike you are being such a wonderful guardian, Abby is blessed to have you.
Hopefully the shivering is a thing of the past. As mentioned above it could be a number of things. We are never sure. If it continues, a visit to the vet is a must.
Just keep a close eye on Abby.
As I mentioned to you yesterday, Mishka was shivering for quite a while, but it passed. Sure birds have moment like us, when we get cold shivers etc.

Hope you had a wonderful service at church today.
Enjoy the day with all your pets and Michael.
PS remember to burn the cd before tomorrow !!!!!!!!

Hello,

I have seen the same thing with Rani, We have had her a month now and when we try to hold her we can see the feathers near her legs below the neck shiver. I think she is still getting used to with us. She has figured out how to come out of the cage and will sit there all day. She does not want to do much with her toys yet. I hear her try to say things in the morning and in the afternoon and the minute i go near she stops talking and i have seen the shivering many times.

Abby is young i think just learning new things and getting used to with the house.

Rani has learned to find her way to the cage no matter where we take her in the house. Its so funny she walks on the floor and since i have cherry floors she slips on them. She will try to balance with her beak. I will record it one day and youtube it.

Thank you Rani.. I would love to see a vid of Rani walking on the wood floors..

My living room is stained concrete and Abby does the same thing.. she gets on a rug as soon as she can... some times when she tries to fly she will land and skid a bout 2 feet before she stops...
