Early last week my brother in law was admitted to a hospital. They live in the country, school for the kids is 20 miles away and the hospital he was in over 50 miles away. I drove up to help out with kids, school and home leaving all the dogs any fids at home with Husband. He was all set, I had prepacked all the bird meals in the fridge for Wednesday through Friday. Well, Friday night Husband came up bringing the dogs, left the fids at home. My sister cared for my fids over the weekend.
So Husband shared with me that from the first night I was gone Venus didn't make a sound and Buddy was very quiet. Buzz, Mr. Happy Go Lucky was the only one singing and chatting. Venus was silent every day with him so I asked my sister and she said she never let out a peep. So the lesson learned here is the calling she does is for me. This confirms where my thoughts were going with trying to understand why she screams, she's calling.
I've been reading up on the female eclectus hormonal period and learned that pretty much any touching is stimuli. It makes me feel that I really can't touch her, even touching her beak or feet are stimuli. So I've increased her toy and foraging activities to keep her occupied. However learning that she was quiet for the six days I was gone, now I'm thinking we have some over bonding issues to work on. And yes, she's still very hormonal, we are now going on 9 months. For those that have female eclectus, the initial hormonal period can be up to 18 months.
