That's great! Let us know how she settles in, I'm looking forward to the photos and updates! Is she fully weaned already? If you have any worries, don't hesitate to have a look through forum content using the 'search' function. If you can't find what you're looking for, you can always ask here or start a new thread, and I'm sure someone will be happy to help answer any questions you may have. Once again, congrats on your new baby ekkie!

What a little sweetie! That's a great size of cage you've got for her there! Plenty of room to climb, play and flap her wings, she'll be climbing around that cage like a little monkey in no time! It'll be interesting to see how her cage changes over time. (Bellas cage toys keep increasing and I have to stop myself from over crowding it as It's easy to get carried away when shopping!)

I'd definitely recommend a sisal boing rope for Scarlett - my Bella loves hers, she sleeps on it too :) and a medium size twister perch would be great as its shape is good for foot and leg muscles and it's also a good way to keep her claws and beak trimmed without having to go to the vets. (Bella has one affixed to the inside of her door, she perches on it when she wants to let me know she wants to come out of her cage!)

Your daughter looks very comfortable with little Scarlett which is great to see! I think they're going to be good friends. Remember, just make sure you choose your words carefully around little Scarlett incase she starts repeating what you say!

Keep us updated on her progress!

May the fun and good times begin!

Congratulations on the wee one! Very cute!

I really don't like that mix. Far too many seeds and nuts, ekkies are not primarily seed/nut eaters. They need a high fiber veg/fruit diet. Look into the goldenfeast line. I blend their dry mixes and microwave small amounts with water for 30 seconds. This rehydrates it and you have fresh fruit and veg.

Stay away from these mixes high in nuts and seeds.

OMG look at her mansion! You can put your daughter in it too for "time out" lol :D I just love the picture of your new Ekkie and little girl. Scarlett will no doubtedly give your little girl years and years of companionship and love..maybe when she grows up,she'll be a "birdie person" too! :p

I know nothing about the proper grub for Ekkies...there are plenty here who do,and as Gail often mentions, the search function is a great place to start.
PLEASE! more pictures of your Scarlett! Everyone here on this awesome forum are nuts over any and all pictures.
And WELCOME to the best danged parrot forum in the world!!

I'm not sure what you know about eclectus parrots already, so forgive me if I tell you something you already know, I'm just trying to cover all bases!

Eclectus parrots have very long digestive tracts which means they are super efficient at absorbing nutrients from their food in comparison to other parrot species.

The main staple food for an eclectus should primarily be vegetables and some fruit, and maybe upto a teaspoon of seed per day. They will not live for long exclusively on a seed and nut diet. In the wild they eat fruits amongst other things, but their native fruits are nutritionally closer to vegetables.

That particular mix in your photo has way too many sunflower seeds! I'd recommend only giving sunflower seeds as a treat during any trick training as they have a very high fat content.

Here's some thread links you might find useful:

There's some helpful links to threads about diet in the above :)

That is what I thought and have read, that's why I'm confused that he weaned her onto this , my wife made a huge chop for her today using the ingredients in Katie Flemings big dinner cook post..
Scarlett just looked at it and went to the other bowl with the mix I got from the bird place..
Should I just take that mix away completely?
And just give her the chop my wife made only?

The guys on the forum told me it's quite a common story for breeders to wean youngsters onto seed mixes. Some youngsters have no trouble at all converting to a better diet and others are stubborn about it.

Some things I personally found helpful:

Mixing a spoonful of seeds into her chop before serving at each meal. This made her rummage through the chop and (hopefully) helped to build an association between the chop and the familiar seeds. I initially gave 3 of these servings per day, plus I gave a tablespoon of seeds at night to leave in the cage til morning.

I gradually reduced the amount of seeds I mixed into the chop once I had seen her eating other things. I also gradually reduced the amount of seeds given at night until she had no seeds mixed into her chop and just a teaspoon of seeds at night.

I also ate fruit or veg infront of Bella and made a big fuss about it like it was really tasty. And then when she got curious I'd make sure she saw me tear off a bit of what I was eating and offer it to her (being sure not to give her a bit contaminated with saliva.)

What I do for chop:

I prepare multiple items, chop them, put in seperate small tubs and refrigerate. It then gives me the flexibility to mix different combinations together each day. I make my chop twice a week.

Sprouted seeds:

Sprouted seeds are very good nutritionally and can help when transitioning from dry seeds. To the bird they just look like seeds (which they already love) but the difference lies in that they are effectively on the same par as vegetables in terms of nutrition as they are a living food.

Other meals:

Bella also has a 'fruit soak mix' which is soaked overnight and I sometimes I mix it with her chop when my fresh chop is dwindling and lacking variety prior to shopping!
She also has 'parrot dinner' bean mix which is soaked overnight and then cooked. She is also given cooked sweet potato.

Another thought:

Fruit such as Passion fruit and pomegranate might be a good thing for her to try as they have seed type bits which she may find pleasing! Please check before offering her any other fruits with seed parts as some are on the 'toxic' list - such as apple seeds.

I hope some of this might be helpful to you. If not, I'm sure someone else will chime in and hopefully offer you some pointers they found useful :)

This looks like something I'd give as a "snack" time and only a teaspoon or so.
I have been mixing a little bit in with her food to try and get her off of it completely

Great idea! Then eventually you can give it to her on its own and it'll be more like a treat :) Jasper goes nuts for "snacky time"
