Well done jasper! And great job Katie!

Tell me, I get that fetch was part of the beginning stages but even before that, how do you get him to grab something on command? I try to get Parker to hold something and he stares at me wondering why on earth him holding this object in his face.

He's always super curious about things I give to him so awhile ago I just started saying "pick it up" before handing it to him. Is there a particular toy or prop that Parker always goes for? I'd start using the command with that!

Unfortunately no. He's not a toy player at all, no real curiosity. He'll grab food right away but good luck preventing him from eating it.

What about something destructible like paper he can shred, loofah, popsicle stick, etc?

Hi Katie, well done with Jasper! He really looks like he is trying so hard! Please tell me where you got that toy, I would love to introduce shapes to Salty's training,I can tell he is getting a bit bored with our current regime.

Hey Chris. I got Salty interested first by doing the trick myself a few times, we started with the colored ring toy, Then when he understood that he was to hold the rings we would both hold the ring and put it onto the post. The last part was to sow him that the blue ring was to go on the blue post, etc etc.
He gets that part right about 80% of the time - LOL, sometimes he gets so worked up during training sessions ( cuz of the treats) that the tricks requiring him to have some concentration dont always go right. And he has a temperament too - if he is ticked off at me, it will show up at training time, where he will refuse a given command, or do it wrong on purpose ( and he knows it).

Instead of holding the object in Parkers face, try putting it on the ground in front of him, picking it up a few times yourself. ANy movement by him towards the object is rewarded, and if he picks it up or even close same thing - praise and reward. Parker seems a bright boy, he just needs to know what you want of him.

Thanks everyone! :D I'm so proud of him, he learns so quickly. I wish he had done it on camera, but normally when he does a trick correctly you can just SEE how proud he is of himself. He will squeal he's so happy, it's adorable.

From the dollar store actually! Normally these types of toys are wooden but when I saw a plastic one I grabbed it.

He's so cute! Watching him trying to wiggle and plonk those shapes onto position warms my heart! He's such a clever little boy. You must be very proud! I can't wait to see how he progresses. Keep up the good work! (both of you) :)

Katie, I'll pay you 5 loonies and shipping for one !

I'll check the next time I'm at the one by my place and see if they're there. I got this one in Ottawa (same store, different province!). I'll let you know :)
