Death leaves sweet Eclectus homeless

Hi,

I went to a local bird shop to get my bird fix because my dear Eclectus passed away in August. After checking out all the adorable baby birds, I noticed an adult Eclectus in a cage in another part of the store and asked the store owners about his story. This wonderful bird, a fourteen year old male Solomon Island Eclectus had a sad story. He was a very loved bird whose owner use to board him at the bird shop so the bird shop owners knew him well. Sadly the owner died of cancer and the bird shop found him a new home. The home didn't work out and he was returned to the store but soon found another home which also, did not work out. This bird, I am told, has never bitten anyone that they know of and they pet sat him often so they know him well. I handled him and he was very social and sweet. He talks a lot and does not scream, I am told.

He flies and has all his wing, tail and of course, head feathers but has a vest of grey feathers because he has started plucking due to the recent turmoil in his life. I just wanted to post him, in case, there is a wonderful Eclectus prospective owner looking for a really great bird, gentle, friendly, talks a lot and does not scream. He had a very special bond with his original owner, he was her only bird and she took him everywhere with her. This bird deserves a loving, forever home, please pm me if you think you could be that home and I can give you the details. The store is located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Just wanted to post to help network this guy so he can have his happy ending.

Just bumping this thread in the hopes that someone in the Cleveland area might be interested in taking in this ekkie. Such a sad story. After being in a loving home for so many years, to have been rehomed twice must have been traumatic to the poor guy.

Thank you for trying to get word out there.

I did consider adopting him but when my bird died it was so devastating for me I don't think I could go through it again. I did seriously consider it but my heart is just not ready. I do want him to find a wonderful, forever home though.

Thank you for all of your comments.

So very sorry for the loss of your Eclectus earlier this year.

Yes I thought the same when I lost my darling budgerigar many years ago and like you swore never again until Plum landed plop in my lap. I now realise I have missed out during those birdless years . No pressure but he does sound adorable and he will need healing too so why not heal each other, wdyt? :)

i'd be willing to take him if they can get him to CA from OH. Wrangler needs a buddy and I have a spare cage. Besides, Wrangler is getting spoiled rotten--he needs to share the toys and attention.

He is at a bird pet store not in a rescue so there would be no way to transport ,sadly. This same pet store placed him in the past two homes that did not work out and I am not sure how much if at all they will screen a potential adopter. In addition to selling parrot items they also sell baby birds.

You and coopedup could make arrangements together to purchase the bird and then you could ship him out to California for him. Just a thought. Shipping isn't really that big of a deal anymore, and the animals are well cared for from point A to point B.

He's actually being sold in a pet store in Cleveland? I just want to make sure I'm understanding...I may have an experienced ekkie owner that would love to adopt this bird and give it a loving home, along with her current ekkie and a Meyers parrot...how much are they asking for him?

Oh also, do you have a photo of him or the name of the pet store so she can look him up online?
