It seems like it has been forever since I've been on, even though it's only really been a few weeks. I hope everyone had a good holiday. I did, although I can honestly say I'm glad it's over. Too hectic for me, I'd rather sit at home with my fids.

Of course they got to participate in some of the festivities. Chicken got an aviator harness for Christmas, and Tiki got a new toy. Neither of them seem too excited, but it will come in time. Tiki has to figure out what his toy is before he can play with it, so hopefully he'll like it. If not, Chicken will. She could care less about her harness right now, it's too cold to go outside. If she doesn't get to go outside, she doesn't care one bit about it. I'm glad she's got an actual aviator though.

I think the rest of the family thought I was nuts when I made them all give me the tissue paper out of their presents for the birds. What can I say? Cheap toy material, since both birds love tearing it up. I think that they all think I'm too obsessed with my birds, but how can you not be?

My mom just shook her head when I started talking about all the bird treats I was going to make when I opened the dehydrator she got me, but what did she think I wanted a dehydrator for? I made some dried apples with a little bit of cinnamon on them yesterday, which turned out really good. I want to do bananas next, that is about the only way Chicken will eat them.

Chicken is coming pretty close to just being a free-range Chicken. Since she is no longer sharing the double stack cage with Tiki, she can climb onto her cage without me worrying about toes getting bit, so I open her door when I get up in the morning, and just close it when we go to bed. She can get onto her tree from the top of her cage, and it sits in front of the window, which she loves. She generally just goes between the two, and that's it. Although when I was going through some stuff on the living room floor this morning, she of course had to come down to the floor. Not to be with me, necessarily, but just to get into stuff. Naughty Chicken.

We had a bit of a scare just before Christmas. Tiki has been losing weight since I brought him home, but that was expected. He switched from being free fed pellets all the time to primarily fresh foods, plus he is taken out of his cage every day and is much more active. However, I though he was starting to look thin, so I took him to his vet. Although he will let me pet his head and back, he does not allow me to touch his chest much, so I can't get a good feel of his keel bone, so I was judging just on how he looked. Well, when he was seen by the vet, I was sort of laughed at. The vet said he looks superb, and that he's glad to see the weight he has lost, cause he was a fat bird before. He gave him a little gas so he could really get a good feel of his body and assess his condition since I was worried, and because he thinks that it makes it much less stressful on Tiki since he is blind to just be put out for a few minutes. He trimmed up his toes and beak while we were there, and sent him home with a clean bill of health. So that was a relief.

I think that is about all that is new with my duo. Again, I hope everyone had a good holiday, and hopefully now that it's over, I'll be able to be on more often.

@ OutlawedSpirit, Good to see you back on and laughing at the Dehydrator from your Mum. Would love to hear your take on this eventually, am sorely tempted. Also good to hear all is well with fids and family. :)

Welcome back! Always good to hear from you!

The news about Tiki is great! Considering the challenges of getting a blind bird to be more active and shed some weight, I am duly impressed. How much does he weigh, now?

Looking forward to hearing Chicken's progress on harness training. When i was working on Maya, I started in the winter time. That way, by spring she was ready.

Tiki is down to 532. When I first got him he weighed 588. So he's dropped like 55 grams in 4 months, about 15 grams a month. He does seem to feel much better, though. I've noticed, especially lately, that when he comes out, he is much calmer and more snuggly. He is much less aggressive and has not bitten the glove in ages. I have even tried having him step up without it, but he seems to prefer the glove now. I think he has grown to trust it, so to speak. I think the material gives him a good grip, so he feels more stable on it than skin. Which, if that is the case, then I will always use one just for his benefit. I can touch him with my bare hand easily along his wings and back, he'll even let me stroke his head now, which he in no way would let me do before. He's making great progress and we seem to build more trust every day.
