Since it's a lil difficult to upload pictures to here since I primarily use the site on my phone, I put all the images and descriptions in an imgur post. Just some silly/fun stuff going on with Lincoln

I have a few pictures of from when he was young, when I first got him, here:
Pets by Sootlet on DeviantArt

He's pretty old now but I'll see if i can get some more pictures of him tonight or upload others I have on my phone. His cage has changed a lot since those pictures were taken too.

Yus he's my little baby. He's a grumpy old man now but he's still my baby. He was the first pet that was my full responsibility.

From that photo album I'm pretty sure that you're secretly Gerald Durrell, haha

Great pics. Thanks!

Say... I have that exact cage... the big white one.
Where'd you get yours?

Lincoln came with the cage so I'm not sure where it was originally bought unfortunately. It's a nice cage but the large door kind of bothers me because it really limits where you can out perches. You can have one going all the way across because then you can't open the door, you can have small ones on the door or on the opposite side but if you put any on the door you have to make sure it doesn't catch when trying to open the door. All cages have their flaws though so :p I'll just need more bird rope so I have more options xD

Edit: 'Lincoln came with the cage' was the wrong wording. Sounds like I bought the cage and got a cute little bonus. So I should say the cage came with Lincoln xD

I'm finally buying a new one...
I was putting stainless washer sets on worn spots, but there's like 20 already.
I can tell you I bought the cage (new) about ten years ago.

I'm unsure if lincoln has had this cage all his life or not. I know the person who I got him from said the guy who sold her Lincoln gave her the cage too and that's as far back of his history that I know. It's unfortunate. For all I know the guy had had Lincoln from the start. That or Lincoln's gone through many homes :(

Yes and now he's stuck with me for hopefully another 60+ years :p

I'm really excited about it actually. He's still not all that sure about being touched and still nips at but he's come a long way since I got him back in November and it's only been a few months. I can only imagine where he will be in a year or 10. Unfortunately the follicles on his body may be permanently damaged since they have showed no signs of growing back on his body. I'm hoping once he molts and has better feathers on his wings he'll be able to fly but I'm not sure how much body feathers effect flight. He still has his tail feathers, but they're also in bad condition. I'm going to start trying to give him vitamin a again. I had to stop before because I was accidentally giving him too much and causing toe taps >< so I cut it out and haven't started again yet.

I love your dining contraption! I'm sure he truly appreciates your ingenuity so he can still be part of the flock at dinner time :) Great work!

Perch placement can be a pain! Getting the door perch to exactly the optimum position to avoid clanking the frame, avoiding poop bombs from above etc, it can be quite a chore (especially with big cages) sometimes needing 2 people, one to hold the perch in position inside the cage, the other affixing the wing-nut from the outside. But with all these niggling complexities comes a great sense of pride and accomplishment when we succeed in providing for our fids!

I have quite the soft spot for Lincoln, and enjoy seeing what he's upto! Thanks for sharing :)

Gerald Durrell (1925-1995) was a famous naturalist/conservationist/zookeeper. He is most known for the memoirs he wrote about his life, mostly about his childhood. They are absolutely hilarious - some of the funniest books I've ever read! They have a perfect balance of animals/nature and human satire.

A good place to start is with the book My Family and Other Animals - but his books are pretty self-contained.

"My Family and Other Animals was intended to embrace the natural history of the island [of Corfu, Greece] but ended up as a delightful account of Durrell’s family’s experiences, from the many eccentric hangers-on to the ceaseless procession of puppies, toads, scorpions, geckoes, ladybugs, glowworms, octopuses, bats, and butterflies into their home."

It's not long and the book is pretty episodic, so it makes for fun reading. Highly recommended! :D

I will definitely be reading that once I get the chance. I absolutely love animals of all kinda. Everything from arachnids to avians. Anything that moves I'd love to learn more about and be able to interact with them. I've absolutely fallen in love with the avian side of the animal kingdom. I see myself dedicating a lot of time to them for the rest of my life xD

I'm so glad you guys like Lincoln. I'm glad he can spread happiness. He's a really good boy and I really hope I can socialize him more so others can experience him as I have. He's still super shy.

Loving the pics, and even more the stories of how you and Lincoln are getting closer and closer. You truly get out of it what you put in when it comes to birds, and given the progress Lincoln is making in so short a time, I'm betting that you put in quite a bit.

A word of warning regarding ekkies and supplements. Unless specifically directed to do so by your avian vet, I would advise against vitamin supplements. Eclectus parrots have very sensitive digestive systems. Historically they don't do well on supplementation. This is why there is such an emphasis on fresh foods for them.
