A nice little trick for eclectus parrots in a financial bind

It's essential to feed your bird the right diet all the time. However, fresh fruit, especially out of season can get expensive depending on your area. (Winter in Canada is expensive as hell)
So, here's a little secret I discovered a short while back. In most grocery stores there's a freezer section dedicated to novelties. One being bags of smoothie mixes. These are pre-mixed, unsweetened bags of frozen fruit.
They come in bulk so you shouldn't have to worry for a while.
I generally buy three bags of different mixes so Ember gets a variety.
Her favorite so far is the tropicana mix. With grapes and pineapple.
Of course don't serve these fresh from the freezer. I tend to leave the fruit to thaw overnight in the fridge. And then a little more on the counter so she eats room temperature.
The only draw back is almost all of them have strawberries. Which I think she's getting sick of. Because she keeps tossing them at me XD

Yep I do this. Of course fruits need to be a smaller portion of the diet think more whole grains and vegetables as the base of the diet). So I only use maybe two pieces. Most of those are big chunks anyways.

Yeah! I try to give Ember a varried diet, one of our favorites is rice with veggies. (I make the stuff for myself as a quick meal and well, so long as I don't season it before hand it's safe for her too So~ two for one)

I see a lot of you making big batches of chop and I wish I would be able to plan for that, but I tend to buy veggies on sale. Once I've used, what I planned, I dice up the rest and freeze them in small zip lock bags.

I also buy frozen mixed greens for wok or similar. And at one bird food vendor sells 1 kg of frozen fruit for about 5 USD. He has mango, papaya, pineapple and blueberries.

On top of that I harvest a lot of different fruit from trees nearby.

But I guess with 4 large macaws, an eclectus and a lorikeet, I guess I would be ruined if I purchased most of it out of season. Denmark is a very cold climate, so most things are out of season 3/4 of the year. A lot of things are never in season locally.
