Harness - How tight?

Everytime I get Jasper in his harness he seems to be able to get a foot out of the front of it. I think I don't have it tight enough against his body. When facing him (wish I had a picture but I'm at work right now), it's on the left side where he can get out from.

So I'm wondering how tight am I supposed to make it? I believe I have the right size for him, it fits him perfectly, it's just the front left by where it's tightened that seems to be too loose.

If a photo will help I'll try to snap one next time I get him in it.

When the harness fits properly he WILL be able to get a foot into it if he tries. Their chest needs room to expand. Try distracting rather than adjusting the harness. It should sit loosely around the chest without bulging out or squeezing in.

i find Salty always et one leg on the wron side of the harness, nad then its a battle to get it right. We will get it down better with practice. And it does take practice. But mostly just et them used to puttin it on over the head. Right, Salty boy?

Do you have an aviator harness? You can slide the plastic where it tightens around to a different spot. I have a bare eye girl who is a pain and chews at it, so I usually put it on almost upside down so the piece is on her back.

As for how tight, my rule of thumb is that you should be able to fit a finger between the harness and Jasper's body.

Unfortunately I can't actually move it like in this video. it's sewn into a loop so it's fixed.

Oh, yeah. Definitely too loose. When I say you should be able to get a finger in there, I mean slide it under. Looks like you left a loop. If you look back on the ones I posted in your other thread with Maya, you do see a loop, but that's from the buckle, not from the circumference of the "waistline". (I have big hands, so if I don't leave that buckle loop getting her out of the harness is a PROJECT.)

Judging from your picture, though, you should still be able to work the slack enough to get the buckle around the back. Unless I'm judging what I'm seeing incorrectly.
