Good things happen to those that wait .........
Where are you obtaining the bird from, the pet shop or a breeder?
When the time is closer, when you have chosen a bird, many members will give their input as to what size cage etc.

Hi Kimmy and welcome to the forum, there are many members here owned by Ekkies, so getting good advice shouldn't be much of a problem, waiting isn't such a bad thing, it will give you more time to do research on their somewhat complex dietary needs, good luck, enjoy your stay :)

Welcome, I am owned by a 6 month old Female Eckkie named Abby. She is a sweetie.
I am glad I got a female...

Their diet is more fruits and veggies than most parrots. But it is not complicated.
Here is a link that might help you.

Just search the web and you will find a lot of good information.

Hey, welcome!!! Glad to have you around!!!

And actually, Ekkies are realtively quiet. They may let an occasional loud sqawk but nothing more. But again, depends on your Ekkies. personality. I know a few Ekkie members who'd be willing to assist.

thanks guys :]

so females are just as friendly as males, mike? thanks for the link.

yeeeeeyuh apatrimo, i hope when i get her she's loud lol. my ringnecks don't even talk yet :[ and they hardly even make a noise it sucks! i hope they start talking real soon. naboo isn't tame but yuffie is and she's going through a stage where she wont step up, i hope she's not copying naboo! every time i pull her out of the cage to feed her she just wants to get back in, i think she hates being hold :[ i hope she gets out of this stage.

When I got Abby see was real quiet.. she was 12 weeks old. It did take her a while to start mumbling. The last month she has really started mumbling louder and louder, and she will squawk when I leave the room.
Eckkie females are reserved. They do not spook easy and do not squawk. The will just sit there and stare. Some will say they are boring.. they are not they are just absorbing everything that they see and hear. Abby is a clown... I bought her a large cage and she loves it.. she climbs and hangs all over it..

Abby is really getting her personality now.. they are just like children... would you expect a 6 month old to talk and play.... some birds do mimic at an early age.. but ask Ant... Mishka is 3 years old and is putting words together as sentences and asking questions not just mimicking what she hears...

All birds are individuals as we humans are... some can sing and I can't carry a tune in a bucket... some birds will be better talkers than other.

Hope this help.

When you get your bird, take things easy, give the bird time to settle down and adjust, so many new changes.
As Mike (cowtown) mentioned some birds talk and some birds don't, it takes a lot of time and patience each and every day routinely.
At a much later stage we can discuss how to train a bird to talk.
Take care :green:

The key is patience, patience and a truck load of patience... Just talk to her in her cage and keep telling her you love her, give her treats when she does something good.

Remember the Eckkies will live 40-70 years so you will have a life time of fun and learning.
