Even a clipped bird can fly away. If you clip a bird short enough that they have no flight they will likely injure themselves severely when they try to fly and hit the ground.

If you do clip, there are several methods and even those can depend on the species, age, and other factors.

I do want him to be able to glide down to the floor, so I should have worded this differently.

Why do you want to clip Ziggy’s wings? Flight is important for a bird’s health. If you absolutely need to clip, only trim the first few feathers so the bird can still fly. Again, I do not recommend clipping at all unless absolutely necessary for the bird’s safety.

either 3 or 4 of the rear flight feathers should remove a lot of the lift
i would try 3 first, think when we did Max we got 4 by mistake, lily got 3 and was flying much sooner then Max.
