It's been great hearing all the kind words. Thank you from my family to yours.
Mango is loosing weight daily now. He still eats very well, but doesn't seem to gain weight. The vet said nothing else they can do. Seems the inevitable is days away. He is comfortable, as far as I can tell. He still fights to take his meds. But after, continuing to snuggle. I am deeply troubled by my breeder's lack of compassion to even respond, which leads me to believe the worst. I talked to some good people on here and learned alot. Thank Gos for your input, and all your help. Don't ever stop.

I don't think my can family can go through this again. We have lost all of our pets in the past few years. Mango may be the last, and the youngest.

Than you all again.

Craig

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I'm so sorry you and Mango are confronted with a stubborn as yet unidentified disease process.

A shot in the dark, but if you suspect Mango has liver disease, a specific type of aloe detox liquid may prove helpful. Found this thread, perhaps best discusses a homeopathic treatment. http://www.parrotforums.com/general-health-care/52562-please-help-liver-disease.html You can also use the search engine for "aloe detox."

Please continue to fight for Mango, where there is life, hope exists.

I hope there is a shot in the dark.
You are so very brave and loving. My heart aches for you and Mango. The thing I would cling to is that Mango is loved and treasured, and will enter eternity that way, whether in a few days or years from now.

Right, don't give up! Mango isn't. Would help you and the vet is careful food intake and weight records are kept from now on? The vet is a avian certified or better one?

Look into milk thistle. I know of an amazon that had liver disease and lived for 8 years as a result of taking that medication.

I am so sorry to hear this :( Wishing Mango all the best, I truly hope things turn around for him. I will send you a PM of someone I highly recommend talking with who may be able to offer some help.

Craig, I'm so sorry. But as has been said above, please don't give up. Aloe detox or milk thistle might be good things to try if the diagnosis truly is liver disease. Heck, given the urgency, they couldn't really hurt. And could potentially really help.

I'd suggest getting a second opinion, though. At this point, given what I remember reading from your prior posts, they really aren't sure what his definitive diagnosis is at the moment. Maybe fresh eyes are needed.

Stay strong, Craig. For what it's worth, we're all behind you and Mango.

Thank God for all of you! Mango has been stable. He even flew across the room to the top of my curtain. Hasn't been there in over 2 months. All your prayers have helped. I am searching herbal remedies and already on the milk thistle. His liver values are normal, however he hasn't been able to keep weight on.

I have one Umbrella, a Bare Eye, and two budgies.
It seems like your vet has ruled out any medical reasons. Could it be diet ?Will he eat high calorie foods like millet and peanuts?

Poor little Mango. My thoughts are with you!

I'm not sure what to say. Maybe if you put out a little more info, someone else might be able to help. For example, what meals is he currently getting per day? Does he have a good appetite? If you can post a menu of his meals, someone else might be able to spot something else that could be changed or increased that might help him?!

I guess variety is important to try to give him a bit of everything in hope that his body can replenish whatever it is that he's missing. If his body is using up its own energy reserves and not energy from food, there may be other foods with a higher energy value that might help.

Oven cooked butternut squash mash meals can be comforting. I cook it in a smidge of coconut oil and feed it warm. I just know that my guys find comfort in the warm smush being fed to them in pinched fingers, maybe Mango will too, I think it reminds them of being a baby being fed.

I've got everything crossed for you and Mango x

Our conure has trouble keeping weight on. Our vet gave us Emeraid Omnivore as a supplemental food. It's what they feed ICU patients - nutritionally balanced, easily digested, high in calories. Made by Lefebvre.
Just sharing in the off chance it helps.

I'm SO glad to hear Mango seems more stable!! I'm praying for him too. I have no idea what advice to offer but I agree with what Anansi said, a second opinion sounds like a very good idea. And you could ask the second vet for advice on how to fatten up your Mango... (Ok... that's a really funny phrase, "Let's fatten up your Mango!!")

Seriously though, please do keep us posted. I'm eagerly waiting to hear you tell us he is gaining weight and getting healthier. My hopes, prayers, and sincere kind thoughts are with you and your sweet Mango.

Can you hand feed him? That could help him put on weight. Just a thought.

Hi. Avitech sells a milk thistle and dandelion detox. I've read reviews from a couple of people who claim it cured their parrots from chronic liver disease, but I do not know how reliable those review are.
