Hi Ekkie lovers

I’m kris, new to the forum but have read the forum for quite some time, thank you for all your advice and great ideas!

I have a problem, my male eclectus Yoshi born July 2016 has suddenly become aggressive, the last 2 days when I’ve gone in to get my babies set up for the day I’ve been hissed at and lunged at (bit yesterday no blood drawn)by Yoshi and I don’t know why. He’s my little man, he’s been a little bitey in the lead up to this behaviour over the last 3 weeks, normally it only happens in the morning after about an hour or 2 he’s fine, like now, I can hear him talking away with Coco and Burd, in the evening he’s my little snuggle pot again.

It’s confusing me, he has been my little man since October 2016 and I know he loves and adores me, could it be hormones? I’ve never had eclectus parrots before mainly just budgies, a couple of rescue galahs and Burd who we rescued in 2012 any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome! I'm in the same boat as you, new here but reading everything I can for months. Also new to Eclectus. Patches is my new buddy. He's been with us for just 2 weeks, but we visited him for several months before he came home. He's not a baby though, 18-20ish. I'm not really in a place to give advice I suppose, but here's my two cents. It sounds very possible it's hormonal to me. Sleep patterns can play in to that. Daylight hours getting longer changes things. I also wonder about puberty, which would explain a lot. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think he's a little young for that just yet. I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable folks here can speak more to that. I'm happy to not have to deal with that. If I can offer anything it's this... Be patient and understand that some things will need to be on his time frame. He'll come around and it will be worth the wait. They are amazing!

Kris,
Like Saxguy said it sounds like those teenage hormones are on the loose. I would bet he is protecting his perceived mate. It's that time of year.

You have to realize that it really isn't his fault. These are wild not domesticated beings that we invite into our lives and homes(I ran into a bunch of those in college, but that is another story).

This will pass you just need to be patient. But this will reoccur for years to come....or maybe not.
