I’m excited to take April in to the vets and get all kinds of knowledge and a once over for my ekkie April , she is certified avian vet. Anyway I have 3 dishes going on and I’m interested in finding out what changes and advise she has for these beautiful unique birds . I have the mix that she is used to ( unsulfered dried fruits and veggies with it is zupreme naturals , which she doesn’t eat I started counting immediately and there was about 5 in bowl and throwing away all 5. I add 6 tops pelts in. Second bowl is Ceylon cinnamon sticks(2) and anise pods with cracked organic shell nuts , 3 rd bowl is fresh and varied daily today was juiced oranges watermelon cucumber on quinoa brown rice with soaked garbanzo beans topped with peppers and green beans, noir kale and sprouts. Organic chamomile tea as option. I’m hoping to be on the right path but open for anything, our appointment is 1:20 I took her along once already when my guinea Pig went in for her regular .
These are my questions so far:
-Is it normal for them to not be so good at holding on ?
- lights
- mites
- food of course
- what the heck is she doing up so dang early lol
- if I should be trying to touch her ( tolerance exercises), every morning now I get her out and give her a kiss and hug and sweet nothings but that is the only touching I do . Probably 10 step ups and take her to various perches and always kiss her beak but that is the extent of touching, tons of talking to her.
- silly question when does the eyes get white and beak get all black, just curious. That’s my line up thought I would share .
FYI tried the harness( I’m sure you can guess why) gonna take time for that one!! Cheers :red1:
Making some mistakes already

For anyone interested :
- ditching the light
- lots of small meals consisting of mostly raw fresh veggies, small amounts of tropical fruit , whew this makes my life sooo much easier!
- nuts very few as treats kinda thing
- weight was good , all around great shape !
Interestingly her band says she’s from Florida.
She may have been a little weak due to the mix , I wasn’t ready to not go with what the breeder had said so I was offering her everything but I feel better now and comfortable in this direction.

I'm so happy that April's vet visit went well!
My Ekkie doesn't get any pellets, he doesn't do well on them but I know some others who have had good luck with feeding a few. He gets fresh chop twice a day, and a small amount of seeds for his overnight. We also vary his chop so it doesn't get boring.
It sounds like you are on the right track with her, looking forward to hearing about your journey together.

Sounds like the CAV advised you well. One question, though. What light are you ditching? And why?

It is a $ 160.00 top thing with a feather bright( I think) bulb uva and a moon bulb she has been without it now for couple days seems okay I have moved her in to a room where she gets the natural sunlight times . The vet said there is many articles on problems from , and none supporting benefits , luckily we were able to shift things around here still moving in. Also said skip berries and local fruit only give her subtropical fruit. Getting a ss aviary for summer to hopefully give her some real sun too . Since ditching the mix her strength is amazing ! I just checked out your pics very cool I love the maya with her wing on the tree , she’s lovely!

Awww! Thank you! I need to update that album, as I still haven't made one for Sir Jolly. Shame on me.

Oh! Almost forgot one of your earlier questions. The beak for the eclectus female usually goes completely black by somewhere around the 1 year mark, give or take a few months. (Takes around the same amount of time for a male eclectus to lose all of the black on his beak.)
