4 male eclectus' in one cage does not seem like a good thing. I am not saying that eclectus' are mean I am saying they are all males. I know that when my brother had to male parakeets they fought. We had to exchange my femal for his male. I dont know what anyone alse will say so we have to wait and see but I don't think it is the best idea.

Why did the bird die? I think it is overcrowded and you could have a problem with territory disputes.

It doesn't sound good to me, either, although I have no Ekkie experience. How big is the "cage"...I'd think you might need a VERY large aviary.

Yea it would have to be huge. Males especially like there territory. I would seriously vote against having them in the same cage. Maybe two to a cage but even then it is alittle risky.

4 birds in one cage does not sound like a good idea especially if one just passed away. Do you know the cause??? How big is the "cage"?

You mentioned that the smallest bird died, what are the ages of the other birds
I hope you have taken the other birds to a vet.........if not do so a.s.a.p.
The bird that died, could have had a disease and given it to the other birds
Where did you get the birds from, and how long have you had them?
Sorry for all the question, but we need more information .......

Male budgies will not fight unless there is a serious lack of space. What colour were their cere's? I think you have possibly mixed up genders, sounds more like two females to me. If the cere's were light blue with white, they were female.

They were definetly males. They had dark blue ceres. The cage was pretty big so I am not sure why they fought.

When we seperated them they were fine. The weirdest part is that my brother still has the same cage he had before and whenever we let the four of them play together(they like to hang out together), The two males don't fight at all they even go in one of the two cages and sit together. But yea they are definetly males.

As Antoinette has said there are a few Questions to answer before we assume the worst. I would think that the smaller bird was not well. Just because 1 bird dies does not mean that he had a contagious disease. There are many other reasons for a birds death.

Young male eclectus are fine in a rather large weaning cage. I have had up to 5 in one such cage. They are not an aggressive bird, in fact they are very placid & do like to interact with their nest/cage mate. They can & do get a bit stroppy when 1 wants what the other has but that doesn't end up in a fight.

I have also bred in a colony situation without any problems at all. Aviary situation of course.

Barryscott the info you have provided isn't really enough to be able to comment on. But i am so sorry you have lost one of your birds.

All 4 Birds need enough room to spread their wings at the same time. They also should have their own perches and food bowls so 1 cage is probably only enough room for two at the very most - one large mccaw cage is not even really enough for both male and female ekkies so I have an extra cage in the kitchen and a huge tree that either can go to for some air.
