What's the right size Pak-O-Bird for a male SI Eclectus? I'd like to purchase one. The Celltei website says medium, but it's hard to judge the appropriate size from pictures. Thanks.

You want a medium for an eclectus. Here's my boy in the medium carrier (I don't know what sub species he is though so he might be a bit bigger or smaller than your boy)

Yep, medium!

To be clear they have two mediums: a regular medium and extended medium they advertise for African greys (not sure why they would need “extended”). You just need the regular medium.

LOL because a lot of african greys do not fit in a medium of course ;)
M/L is a much better fit is you have a large grey.

This would be me assuming. I thought Ekkies and greys were roughly the same size. Don’t recall any greys I’ve encountered being notably bigger. But I’ve seen a weight range of 400-600g. So they bottom out at the top end of Ekkie range.

But even my 450g male fits perfectly fine in the regular medium. So I do have SOME valid perspective.

Learn something new every day!

I just got a secondhand M/L but I cannot take pictures yet - once I have those, so will you.
Maybe its because the greys are not as mellow and need more room to mess about in?

What is a good visual aid? So we can compare sizes.
A can of cola?
We all use different measures most of the time so I am thinking what I can use so the size translates well for everyone.
(a 1 litre or 1,5 litre bottle will not have any meaning to you and even if I could find a 1 gallon somehere, that would be a bit much...)

Once I get home I can take a picture of mine next to a ruler or something

Done! I just ordered the gold one in medium. It should arrive in the next 2 weeks.

It would be cool if you guys can post pictures of your Pak-O-Birds (if you have varying sizes) for future discussions if people have the same question as me. Maybe just post the small and medium sizes side by side with your bird next to it as well?

I have a M/L POB now and a medium Northern Parrots- I will do a comparison later (much later I am afraid, life is somewhat hectic).
Ruler is a fun idea but we still have those centimeters versus those pesky inches to overcome ;) that is why I went with ... 'hey lets use some object we all know the dimensions of'.

It is like you never really realise the size difference between a parrotlet and a macaw untill you see a picture of them together. (Not photoshopped of course)

Japie and Appie just had their first look at the POB - they are a bit wary of it atm.
(Japie loves to muck about in the NP one, but the treshold of this one is quite a bit higher and they are cautious birds ... so he was on the outside looking in, and decided he had seen enough for the time being.) I will put the POB in the livingroom today so they can get used to it (it was upstairs for cleaning/ desinfecting etc. till now).
Patience if you want a pict of a pack-o-bird-with-bird ;)

I actually suggested that 2 years ago to Celltei and cant believe they never followed up. My experience is that the number one topic when you go into a Pak-o-Bird thread is "what size" Foolish of them not to post comparison pics on their website.

Very cute!

Yes it's pretty weird that they won't do that, but at least we have people here to discuss this with.

LOL, are you supposed to match your birdcolour with the carier? ;)

well your only options are gold or green so it's bound to happen. Unless you wanna dish out an extra hunk of cash for a custom

If this is allowed...it is a link to a dutch shop that actually has the different sizes with different birds in them - so just for reference (not advertising!)

enjoy the photoos ;)

That's a smart way to show it off. Seeing the different bird species inside each bag gives an idea of which size is best suited to the individual bird. Thanks Christa!

I have a long thread from a couple of years ago and it shows some beak grab bars I made as well as a camera installation and perch adjustment.

The videos show how bouncy it in the pack for the bird when it's worn on your back. It also showed me that I needed to move the perch. I eventually opted for installing the food cups and she now sits with one foot grabbing the rim of the cup and the other on the perch for a more stable control.

Multi page thread.

Mike, I know you just spent a bunch of money but I wanted to give you something else to spend money on ;)

Living in a cold climate I worried about bringing Nike to and from the car when going to the Vets or worst case, in an emergency in the middle of winter.

Because nothing's too good for my Nike, I purchased a fleece cover from Celltie. Here's the thread. While I use it in the spring and fall, I also keep the cover on the pack all winter in the case of an emergency. I'm happy with it.
